- and yet I still can't find a wii on the shelves within a 30 mile radius of where I am... once they are up they are gone... glad I got mine a year ago

- I saw two on a shelf at Wal-Mart a few weeks back. Those were the first I've seen since 2006. I sent out some text messages real quick letting some friends and family know that some place actually had some stock.
I'm sure they sold out before anyone could have arrived to pick them up. However, I could have grabbed them (or at least 1 of them) if someone had called me back saying they wanted one.

- Weird. On a site I use to get the sales statistics, the Wii according to them has 22.4 million sales.
The Wii will not succeed in this generation. End of. It's novelty is wearing off, and it can't compete with Sony and Microsoft for many reasons. It has last-gen graphics, it's control system is laughable on third-party games, and there aren't many good games on it outside of Nintendo. -

2 years later and it shows no signs of wearing off. 2 years later, and Sony finally looks like it's getting attention. Which one failed again? The novelty has persisted. You know what novelty exists? The one where the much larger demographic of NOT being a pimply teen wetting themselves over a Mature rating can now play games.

- lol, I bought a Wii on launch day and about 6 months ago I sold it to buy an Xbox 360 and GTA4. I owned about 12 games (the majority of which were first party), 4 controllers/nunchucks and a couple of classic controllers to boot. Been a Nintendo fanboy my entire life, still got my GCN and N64 sitting in a cupboard, and a gameboy bag with about 40 odd games in it.
But, with this being said, I got tired of the Wii. The games on it just didn't interest me. I'm 20 in September, and unfortunately I seem to fit into the "hardcore" crowd (although I hate to use the term). The Wii has huge potential, and with all the different peripherals, I'm surprised we haven't seen a MMO with head tracking and remotes strapped to hands and legs and allowing you to walk around in a 3d environment, but hey, they're sticking to the basics and its selling money so why change?
The Wii to me was a test for Nintendo, they were are breaking point. Everyone said it couldn't work and the Gamecube was the end of them, but then the Wii took off because they knew how to advertise it. Advertising is the key and they've done it damn well. It's the hardware inferior of the 3 and yeah it's selling like wild cakes -- why? Because people want one! They want to try it out, they want to see what this craze is, and at such an affordable price -- why not?
What will come from Nintendo next is going to be the real judge. We'll see whether or not they decide to beef up the Wii to next generation standards or will they be a generation behind again?
Now I've got my Xbox 360 hooked up to a 22" LCD monitor and I love it. I'll buy a Wii when something truly interests me again, until then I've got some online GTA4 to attend to.
The Nintendo Wii has become a massive crossover success for the company, cornering the family market and opening gaming out into whole new areas.
The motion-sensor driven gameplay has proven to be a massive hit with families – and the reintroduction of simple games that don't require hours of practices to play has inevitably marked it out as different from the more gamer specific PlayStation and Xbox.
Total Wii sales are currently at 29.72 million units – and with Nintendo predicting a 34 per cent rise in the coming year, the landmark of 30 million will follow sooner rather than later.
