Why No Gears Of War 2 For PC? Well, Piracy For One

Epic Games won't be bringing Gears of War 2 to the PC. That's their story and they're stickin' to it. It's "definitely" not happening, swears designer Cliff Bleszinski, pointing to a worsening PC gaming environment.

"The person who is savvy enough to want to have a good PC to upgrade their video card, is a person who is savvy enough to know [BitTorrent] to know all the elements so they can pirate software," says Bleszinski. "Therefore, high-end videogames are suffering very much on the PC."

Hmph! Thanks a lot, assholes. Oh, not you, Cliff. We were talking to the dude stealing your game.

BS. maybe make the game worth buying instead of fancy graphics and little else?
#1.1 g0wg on 01 Oct 2008 - 09:24
who said it isn't worth buying (or in this case "won't be worth it"?

Unfortunately there are some who will download it nonetheless, whether its good or bad.

true, and these people wouldn't buy it anyway, so they don't even factor into the equation.

Oh my GOD! How many MORE TIMES does it have to be made clear that:

JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE PIRATES YOUR GAME DOES NOT EQUAL A LOST "SALE"

Freaking ignorants.

Epic FAIL
#3 +Harlem39s Finest on 01 Oct 2008 - 10:02
and for two sh*tty FPS don't sell that well on PC since there's lot more choice(in FPS's) than say PS3 or Xbox360.

also just because somebody downloads doesn't mean they would buy the game(not that i condone that kind of behaviour)

Epic = FAIL

edit seems like i wrote the same thing as person above, i failed .

This is the first time I read the word 'a-hole' in a news post here on Neowin! which is censored in the comments btw

It is not the first time where a word or a comment was banned in the forum but allowed in the front page.

That's just fooked up! Well, it wasn't a great game tbh, so no big loss.

Some people just wont wake up!

what a crock of sh*t !

So everyone who has intelligence engouh to upgrade their video card is a software pirate ???

Never mind the 'savvy' people who are 'savvy' enough to chip their XB360 , oh no they can never be software pirates , no-siree!! Because software piracy only occurs on the PC and only those people who have the 'savvy' to change video cards pirate software

yeah right !! Moron !!

QFT!

I mean how hard is it to mod a 360? Hell the games are on dvd, so I am sure those can be downloaded and written!

The PS3 on the other hand is immune for the time being (bluray). But once cheap bluray writers get on the market, how hard do you think it will be to copy those games?

As for the Wii, last I heard there was already software hacks for it.

This information about gears2 is kinda old.. http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3169688

But of course it got nothing to do with it bittorrents at all.
#8 +GreyWolfSC on 01 Oct 2008 - 12:41
It'll come out for the PC after its 360 sales have died down just like the other Xbox 'exclusives' like Halo 1/2, Viva Pinata, Fable, ad nauseum... If it doesn't, no big loss for me... I didn't like the first one anyway.
(1 reply) #9 Aahz on 01 Oct 2008 - 14:21
This argument is made irrelevant by most every torrent site on the internet having a Xbox 360 section.

Those same savvy people are the ones chipping Xbox 360s and selling games to people for $10 a pop. You can literally look in the friggin local newspaper and find people offering to chip your consoles for $30-50.

no kidding. Not to mention that for most games wether they are graphics intensive or not on the PC you got to pay to get a valid key because with only that you can play online, since its checking the key against a database. Thats a very big thing for a lot of people. Yeah I know that can be broken too in some cases but then you have to jump through hoops like finding only 'cracked' servers as well. A major hassle.

The PC game industry and music industry seem to be merging in their bitching. Here's an idea for all the execs in either industry:

Stop churning out total recycled crap and you just might see your sales go up.
#10.1 st_tammy on 01 Oct 2008 - 16:16
Ackh... you beat me to it! what he ^^ said.
#10.2 +Skwerl on 01 Oct 2008 - 16:21
Unfortunately, people seem to still be buying the recycled crap. How many fscking football games come out every goddamned year? How many FPSes? How many hooker-killing shock-violence gorefests come out each year? People seem to want the same old crap, so that's what the game companies make. Once you find a formula, you use it over and over...

Well, I'm not sure how this qualifies as news. It appears that all PC gamers consider Gears to be a crap game anyway, so they're obviously not missing out on anything, and Epic are saving money by not developing for the PC because they wouldn't make a return since no one would buy it. It's win-win, really.

I, on the other hand, can't wait for Gears 2 to come out in November. It's gonna keep me occupied for aaaaaages.

Well it's like Epic is making a huge deal out of this new Horde mode they got in Gears 2, to bad Epic themselves! had invasion mode in Unreal Tournament 2004 (maybe 2003, don't remember). It's not like some brand new gamemode CliffyMoron came up with out of thin air ya know? But they are going on and on how revolutionary it is and blah blah blah.

I along with other PC gamers gave Epic their walking papers awhile ago already. I don't care about them anymore. If it comes to PC, so be it. I'll have plenty of other games to play on both the PC and the 360 that don't come from Epic.
#12 Nose Nuggets on 01 Oct 2008 - 16:29
this is so laughable. pirated 360 games are released quicker then most pirated PC games and for the most part, are easier to use. there is no fussing with cracked exe's and keygens on the 360. download, unrar, burn, play.

I bet their are still angry over GoW sales on PC. Well, that game was probably pirated more than bought due to the terrible quality of the port.

You want to sell a product? Put some effort into it.

No doubt, also take a look at UT3, it bombed because of epic's idiotic idea to integrate gayspy into the game, impossible to play online without it, I wanted to buy that game until I seen that part of it so epic lost a sale and many others have been turned away for the same reason and a lot of people hated the gui that epic threw together, lost a lot of sales over that as well.

Epic stumbles and fumbles when making games anymore, then they blame the pirates.

His just saying that to get more xbox360 sales. People who want it, will get it on the Xbox360, and if they don't have an xbox360, they will get one, just for this game... Trust me, there are many out there who get a console just for a specific game. Epic said the same thing about first Gears, no for the PC, they've made bank with xbo360, a year later, they did very well with the PC.

Trust me, they will release it for the PC next fall. I have a good feeling about it.
#16 cilest on 14 Oct 2008 - 02:26
wow consle games get pirated just as much if not more if you compared all the pc games against all typs of consles there are out there it be rampant then of course we just look at caugh fallout 3 xbox360 cough and then you look at how ****ty gow was and its not supprise they dont want to support the pc after all noone in the right mind would pay twice for one decent game giving that gow2 probly sucks too
#17 +AJR1 on 15 Oct 2008 - 00:19
I wouldn't buy Gears of War 2 anyways, and even if it was Pirated it doesnt equate to lost sales, because EA said so, and EA shi* more than what Epic is worth.

Epic wont release GoW2 on PC, not because of the PC Environment being openly pirated, lets not forget the Xbox 360 is just as bad if not worse! but more the fact that GoW2 is incredibly crap as an FPS on a PC box. It simply wouldn't work, with games like COD4 and Crysis reigning supreme for the FPS fan.

GoW2 is slow, graphically dull, blood fest for 9 year olds.

Epic do us all a favour, and don't have an opinion.
