World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King released today

Today sees the release of the expansion of one of the PC's largest games, and by far the largest MMORPG in the world. Wrath of the Lich King includes many new features that will appeal to the avid Warcraft player, including the level cap being raised to 80, an epic battle between the players and the Lich King at the Frozen Throne, and a new playable class known as the Death Knight.

The Death Knight is what's known as a Hero class, meaning a player will already have to have a character at level 55 before they can create a Death Knight. When the Death Knight is created, he too will be at 55. Hero classes are classes originally seen in Warcraft III that were deemed too powerful to be included in WoW.

Any Warcraft players excited about getting their hands on this expansion? Let us know in the comments below!

There are a handful of midnight launch events in Australia. What's the biggest one happening over in the US?

"Any Warcraft players excited about getting their hands on this expansion?"
There won't be any to leave comments because they'd be playing or queuing up

I don't even have the Burning Crusade yet.

I've played as a hardcore raider since classic beta (something that seems to be tossed around more often than true) and led several pug 25 man raids during wotlk beta on the Northrend realm but I see no compelling reason to pay 40 USD to play recycled content (naxxramas) that has had any and all challenge taken away from it. Naxxramas 10/25 are both like deadmines compared to how Molten Core was when the game first launched. I know it's ment to be easy as the entry level raid but they haven't provided anything in WotLK that is actually challenging for the hardcore crowd.

Blizzard have extended an offer (via email) to all former World of Warcraft players, offering them a 10 day trial of the expansion. This offer lasts 30 days.

I don't think this is accurate, because I have two canceled accounts (both in good standing) and I've received no such email.

Me neither. I only did it last month though. Went from enthusiastic, hardcore, then lethargic.

I now spend my subscription money for smaller treats per month, and the time (major reason of quitting) to enjoy the finer side of life. You know, the side with sunlight - where 'humans' are something you touch and talk to, not kill (for the Horde! ).

Same for me.. It's been JUST under a year and I have not received this email. Maybe they are making their rounds as I am sure there are MANY people to email.

No email for me either, though my account hasn't been active in over a year. I don't even have the Burning Crusade. If I wanted to renew and get up to date it would cost me way more than it's worth in my opinion. Expansions shouldn't cost so much anyway when you already have to pay by the month just to play.

Until they improve the Fisher-Price grade graphics, I remain uninterested in WoW.

Great trailer for Lich King though! That got me interested...and then I saw the screenshots. It's like adventuring in the land of the Smurfs or something.

I had no problem with the graphics. Even after the graphics updates they did in '07 which did show some cool effects.

I really hate blizzard for the fact that they're charging you for the expansion pack, and require to have the previous one aswell. i mean they have over 11million users each paying £9 a month, do they really need to charge for the expansion pack?

11million what ? you mean like 8 million gold farmers 2million players and 1million accounts inactive kinda thingie

Guys should know by now that Blizzard doesnt subtract the inactive accounts from their totals , the number will always go up

Actually, it's 11 million active accounts. If you are going to troll at least be educated at your guesses.

World of Warcraft's Subscriber Definition
World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules.

With this game being as big as it is, I'm really surprised that news outlets don't report on all the negatives that go along with Blizzard and this game. Constant downtime, pets & mounts being lost, all in-game mail gone and even more downtime.

Any good software company would know not to implement any database or core product changes during the same week as an expansion launch.

It's too bad that this game is polluted with idiots who don't have the strength or willpower to let Blizzard know that this sort of dis-service and lack of customer service won't be tolerated.

I canceled my 3 WotLK CE pre-orders and will be canceling my 3 subscriptions to the game as soon as my current game time runs out. I've had enough of the sub-par "service".

Let's see the Blizzard fan boys come out of the woodwork now and defend the mighty Blizzard like the sheep they are.

I play Guild Wars now. I actually like the gameplay of WoW better which may come with Guild Wars 2, but like that I am not as addicted to Guild Wars and still have fun playing MMORPG-style.

For the original poster. Yeah Bliz has downtime and issues but you know what they also fix them and get ppl's things back as well. And honestly I got Lich king the night it was released and as of now (servers down for normal maintance) I've not had one problem and as for the in game mail system They fixed it and a few other issues.

I'm still calling shenanigans on that number. They're counting inactive accounts, people with multiple accounts, oh and how many gold farmers are there? Yeah it's very popular still but the numbers they throw out are just marketing bs.

40 and bored in Warhammer. Game gets stale when you hit 40. Don't know what game you're playing.

yah! serpent's passage is so awesome! War is fun for the first 20 or so levels, next 20 just get annoying as hell, terrible pve, laggy rvr zerg (nice engine), scenerios over and over.
warhammer is mediocre at best, no shock really since mythic have no clue.

not that wow is all that grand either, but saying warhammer is better is a joke.

A customer of mine bought 2 copies of it at midnight. Took it home and none of this 3 computers could read Both DVD's. All 3 computers had dvd drives. So I told him to return them and get new ones. So he did. Then none of the computers would read those either. So he had me come over . I tried it in my 8 year old laptop dvd drive and it worked. So I hooked a brand new dvd burner up to one of his 3 computer and that read the disc just fine. I don't know what is with the install dvd that is being so fussy with certain dvd drives.
#14.1 +Dakkaroth on 13 Nov 2008 - 17:33
We had some issues getting the drives to read on two of the computers. I just ended up copying my WoW folder for them and it worked fine.

There is a developing issue with World of Warcraft here in Canada. One of Canada's major ISPs, Shaw, is having connections troubles. The issues have been traced back to AT&T and the trail goes cold with a server in Dallas.

Anything WoW-related doesn't concern me, except the fact it'll likely be a month or more before I can pry Bishop off of it to do his share of work on the website...
