Today, Microsoft released the New Xbox Experience - refreshed software for the Xbox 360 console which brings several new features - including, for users in the US, access to the ever-popular Netflix service. However, due to complex licensing issues, instead of getting access to everything the service has to offer, Xbox 360 users cannot access any movies that are distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment. A spokesperson for Netflix told MTV Multiplayer that "Those titles are still available to be watched on subscribers' computers and on TVs via other partner devices, and we hope they'll be licensed for Xbox 360 shortly...".
The Netflix representative refused to state whether the license to use the content had just expired, or whether Sony Pictures Entertainment had specifically requested that access to the movies be restricted on the Xbox 360 Console.
So, until Sony says otherwise, the hundreds of Sony Picture Entertainment movies available on Netflix remain unavailable to Xbox 360 users.

All companies are children, it's business. If the boot was on the other foot, Microsoft would do the same.
Thought I read on the forums that it is only Columbia Pictures who aren't streaming, due to a licensing clause against new media devices though, rather than Sony Pictures just pulling it?

Like how MS liscenses Windows on Vaio computers?
One small difference, Sony doesn't sell anything that directly competes with Windows. Both the 360 & PS3 have the ability to watch movies through the console. I'm also willing to bet Sony wants people to invest in Blu-ray as opposed to digital distribution.
It appeas to me that Sony and MS have a few competing products. If MS can prove that Sony is delaying lisencing these films because they want to offered on the PS3 first, it seems to me that the possibility existst that Sony could be taken to court for anti-competitive behavior.

Digital distribution won't happen seeing how the majority of ISPs around the globe have bandwidth restrictions of 250GB or less. Down under its 20-50GB/mth if your lucky.
Also, Sony is partners with Blockbuster. So if anything... they will buddy up with Blockbuster before they did with Netflix.

Yeah, because my decision to buy a console is gonna be based on weather i can watch netflix movies or not.... this is just one more reason to game on a PC than a console...better graphics, cheaper games, and ability to watch any movie you want.

Listen, its a new service and there are bound to have issues. When has anyone heard or remembered a time when something was released bug free? Apple, Linux, MS, Adobe....they all have bugs in their software and issues after releasing something. Hell, what do you think all the updates, patches, and service packs are for?
Instead of looking at the bad...look at the good. The stated that they will hopefully have the service up and going like it should soon. Be patient, stop bitchin, and play your games.
You can only bash Sony or Netflix at this point.
And by the looks of it, you could get Sony related films on the 360, just not columbia.
I still can't find the pron. :-(
You luddite.
Going to make people think bad of Sony? Where have you been for the last few years, the moon?
All companies try to get their part of the pie. There's no saint in the business world. Everything sony do all big companies (including MS) did it and will do it again over and over. Sometime they get caught and need to pay some money but there's more to win than lose.
