It's that time of year where leading game sites start publishing their "best of the year" game lists, and IGN has posted their 'Best of 2008' PC Games. It was quite a list, and it was definitely a fantastic year for PC gaming as a whole.
"Contrary to popular perception, the PC isn't dying. The PC remains in far more homes than all the consoles combined. Yes, that covers a very broad range of machines, but there are also an incredibly broad range of PC games that cater to gamers of all stripes, from the casual gamer who only plays puzzle games to the hardcore gamer who buys a dozen or more games per year."
IGN had a wide variety of categories this year, including awards for Best Action Game, Best New IP, Most Innovative Design, and much more.
Highlights include:
- Left 4 Dead – Best Multiplayer Game
- GTA IV – Best Action Game
- Sins of a Solar Empire – Best New IP
- Spore – Best Artistic Design
- GC II: Twilight of the Arnor – Best Expansion
- Crysis Warhead – Best Graphics Technology
- Sins of a Solar Empire – Best Strategy Game
Sins of a Solar Empire from IronClad Games and published by Stardock, walked away with the most awards including the top spot with PC Game of the Year.

I don't trust anything coming from CNET networks, gamespy+IGN+gamespot .

In defense of that. The PS3 version of GTA IV is fairly bug free.

Yeah but this is the PC version winning the award. Your point, although valid, doesn't apply here.

So is the Xbox 360 version, but this list of rewards is PC games, and the PC version of GTA4 doesn't belong within 500 ft of this list.
Because no one uses a computer for work. Oh no. Not in this world.
Way past it's prime. Way, waaay past.
Yup, please continue shouting that at the 10 million players enjoying the game. That'll only make you more right.
Yea dead space should have got an award, the atmosphere , graphics and the holograms were awesome, and the story too. Dead Space Downfall (anime) wasn't very good.
i dont trust any gamesite for rating games. they dont know anything or even play the games before rate anything.
Nice to see Dead Space getting some respect for keeping the AVP2/Doom 3 traditions alive.
They should have called it Morrowind 3. Oblivion was Morrowind 2. They remake the same game over and over.
Besides EA's annual sports rehashes, The Call of Duty franchise is just as guilty--but at least they still call it Call of Duty and don't try to pass it off as a new game!
You're exaggerating, overall Fallout 3 is waaay more original than CoD series, or GTAIV, Dead Space, Tomb Raider, Warhammer,
I wonder how much money changed hands for those "awards".

I think it got awards for having so much unrealized potential, LOL.
They could have gone so very far with that whole concept, but its developers stopped short.
This will make your company even stronger and helps to promote Impulse
Sins of a Solar Empire – Best New IP
GC II: Twilight of the Arnor – Best Expansion
Sins of a Solar Empire – Best Strategy Game
Stardock came away with:
1. PC Game of the Year.
2. Best Strategy Game.
3. Best new IP
4. Most innovative game design
5. Expansion pack of the year.
So Stardock captured over half the awards this year. w00t.
World Of Goo beat Bejeweled Twist for best puzzle game?
Crysis Warhead beat FarCry 2 / GRID for graphics technology?
Those are some pretty dodgy results, though at least GRID got best PC racer (definitely an underrated game).
I played crysis warhead, then crysis and later farcry2, crysis warhead was awesome, crysis was fine (but a lot of annoying bugs and some stupid and boring episode). Currently i am playing farcry2 is slow as hell and boring as sh*t.
