It seems like only yesterday that the Internet was rife with speculation surrounding the mysterious Metal Gear teaser site, but today the covers have been lifted and Konami have confirmed Metal Gear Solid Touch for the iPhone and the iPod touch.

A spin-off of Metal Gear Solid 4, gameplay is driven by the touch screen, with swipes and pinching gestures familiar to regular iPhone users, apparently making it so easy that anyone can play. The game is due for release in Spring 2009 in North America, Japan and Europe.

Also announced are DanceDanceRevolution S Lite, Silent Hill: The Escape, and Furogga. All three will see a late Decemeber release in all three major territories, except for DanceDanceRevolution S Lite, which won't be released in Europe.

Kojima is big fan of Apple, there are a lot of Macs in MGS 4. So this doesn't comes as a big surprise.

The iPhone and touch will be a bigger portable gaming platform than the PSP and DS combined. Only time will tell.

100% agreed on that, that's if Sony doesn't have anything under their sleeves!

I dont see the touch as a big candidate yet, when it can pull off graphics as good as Chains of Olympus, maybe

You can't possibly believe that. Bigger than the PSP...maybe...bigger than the DS?? Yeah right.

I love my touch, but some games are really anoying to play on it without the proper analog sticks

Can't see it happening, it's not a dedicated gaming device, not got propper controls, list could go on and on...

Fair enough, but "touch" is a new paradigm. Once more people start plying this way and become accustomed to it, it might very well catch on. And it already is catching on.

Try playing the DS, and see how new a paradigm touch is...I dont think they will challenge either the PSP or DS anytime soon. If they are serious, the next revision will need to come equipped with a D pad, and buttons at the very least!

For starters, I don't think a touch screen phone could ever out-do a portable console with buttons. It's way too limiting.

Secondly, I'm glad that they've finally admitted it's an iPhone game. If it wasn't for the very few that thought with logic on the subject, I would have lost what little faith I had in the people of the Internet. A 360 MGS game just because of a power button symbol? It just goes to show just how clueless people really are these days.

It's where the developers are going, in droves. This is only the beginning. There is HUGE potential here for future development, and a lot of money to be made.

Why isn't DDR coming over here? I love that!

It's stuff like this that makes me wanna get an iPhone even more! If they make a 32/64GB model to house all my music, I'm there!

Take a look at Tap Tap Revenge.

Sorry all ou apple supporters i cant see this being pulld off i see it as a failure i mean cmon the phones like a freakin paper weight. so wht u can play games big deal but the games are not good and i cant see how people could even consider a metal gear game on the iphone really tap to shoot god thats goona be really picky where you touch it.

It's a terrible gaming platform right now: battery life is terrible when playing games, the OS has a terrible time with memory and storage in regards to games, they crash left and right, post-play most require that you restart the device to reclaim your resources, the store is capped at $10 for games, oh and THERE'S NO F*CKING BUTTONS!

Apple hasn't made a good gaming platform yet; their damn PCs barely support games let alone their handhelds.
