EA and Crytek to provide Crysis Wars free, for 10 days

EA announced last week that they have teamed up with Crytek to provide gamers with a free 10 days of Crysis Wars - the multiplayer version of Crysis Warhead. It has been available to play since Friday, December 19 at 9:00 AM (Pacific Time) until December 28 at 11:59 PM, and gamers only have to register and download to play.

The 10 free days come at the same time as a 'Holiday Pack' is released for the game, featuring two new maps for Crysis Wars: Savannah, and Frost. The Savannah map is a PowerStruggle map, whereas the Frost map is a TeamInstantAction map. The two new maps are available both for current owners of the game and for those taking advantage of the 10 free days offer. A new patch (1.3) was released earlier in the month, fixing some map and performance issues, which has already been included in the Crysis Wars download.

EA and Crytek announced a free weekend back in October, also for Crysis Wars. The game is considered by Crytek to be separate from both Crysis and Crysis: Warhead, although is currently sold only with Crysis: Warhead.

The game can be downloaded at MyCrysis, although you'll have to register first, freely of course. So if you haven't already seen the great graphics, this is a free chance to do so - although time is limited.

I must be honest, I hadn't even heard about it until today. Arranging it over the Christmas period wasn't the best idea, in my opinion.

Most people are off during Christmas. Would you have preferred that they release it in the middle of final exams? They picked a perfectly appropriate time.

I refuse to pay a subscription fee for anything I've already purchased. Games should be free and have a subscription fee not buy it and still pay a fee.

There is no subscription fee for Crysis Wars. It comes with Warhead.

I'll have to respectfully disagree with you on that one. Sure it isn't as good as say TF2 or CoD4/5 etc, but it's a damn fine multiplayer game in it's own right. The power struggle maps are terrific fun, and the new maps in this patch they just released are amazingly beautiful and well done.

I really didn't like Crysis Wars myself and haven't wanted to play it since after launch. Poor performance (4870), poor balance (suit modes), bland level design and even something like changing your screen name is unnecessarily difficult. I even found the multiplayer for FarCry 2 and Clear Sky to be more enjoyable, which is surprising considering they weren't even designed to be proper multiplayer experiences. Certainly it's nothing on a proper experience like Team Fortress 2 / Left 4 Dead.

I doubt that even if it was free permanently that it would be able to build up any following.

Any idea if retail purchases can be transferred or registered on Steam so we can always have a place to download the game from?

I don't think so, I think when you buy off steam that steam gets a portion of the profits, thus if you didn't buy if off them, they won't give you the downloads because there's no money in it for them.

I dont know what everyone means by paying a subscription? I can play Crysis Wars absolutely free with my copy.. and i really enjoy the multiplayer, not as good as FC2, but still enjoyable.
