By the end of 2009 anyone with a Nintendo Wii and an Internet connection will be able to see the new Wii television channel which will be called "Wiinoma". The channel will feature a whole range of programmes for all ages and all walks of life including cartoons, training programs and even the occasional lifestyle program. Best of all they will be solely produced for Nintendo so you won't have seen it elsewhere.

Initial testing of the channel will start in Japan in Spring but by the end of 2009 most if not all the Wii owners should be seeing this in their home.

The question is how popular will this service be and will it effect the way you watch television? At the moment, the answer to that question is probably yes especially if the programs Nintendo produce are very popular. Primetime television could take a hit and could mean leading television producers may look for new material to save their viewers.

Just quoting the article that says "The company's big Christmas in-house title, Wii Music, has flopped - bringing to an end a long run of success in the current games market."

That's what I'm trying to say... I don't see how it was a flop if it was the #1 Wii title a week before Christmas.

ok those figures you quoted are only for Amazon sites, so that's not exactly an indicator of the entire industry. The game has been out since like August and it has basically bombed. the first month it came out it sold only like 60k copies, compared to well over 200k+ copies for each of the other nintendo brand games in their first months.

Only 60,000? How about 280,000?

I can find more. Where's yours? Besides, the Gamasutra article says Amazon US, UK, JP.

ok yeah that's right, i got first week numbers mixed with whole month numbers, but that's still not as good as other nintendo properties, but you still seem to be missing the point amazon us, uk,jp etc are still just AMAZON. amazon is not a barometer for the entire industry.

As long as it doesn't buffer every minute like in the Nintendo Channel.

Nintendo Channel plays fine for me.

I want a Hulu and Joost Channel.

Something to make the Wii even more popular.

Sounds cool, and if proves popular, we could see more commercial programmes make it to the Wii channel.

"Primetime television could take a hit and could mean leading television producers may look for new material to save their viewers."

Ha ha, not likely. The Wii is a game console first and foremost. No one is going to stop watching television altogether to watch a single channel on a video game console.

unless its on demand content which it most likely may carry in some form.
