Kotaku is reporting that the first StarCraft beta, as well as the first beta for the next-gen Battle.net service, provided by Blizzard Entertainment, is arriving in "the next few months."

The word comes from Blizzard's own COO, Paul Sams, but failed to specify anything closer than "the next few months" as an ETA for the two eagerly-anticipated betas.

It isn't known what changes will be made to the Battle.net service, but more details will come to light closer to the time. The first entry to the StarCraft series, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, is expected to hit shelves this year. StarCraft II will have its campaigns released in three separate iterations, as they will be quite large.

StarCraft II, as per usual with Blizzard, will be available on both Mac and PC, and has been in development since 2003.

Months?! GDI, hurry up Blizzard. The sooner you release Starcraft the sooner you can release Diablo 3.

The reason Blizzard makes such successful games is that they do not rush the process to meet publisher demands. Or, at least they never used to. We'll see how Starcraft II turns out.

Pretty much everything Blizzard has ever put out for the PC was well worth the wait. I have more than enough gaming diversions right now to tide me over. (Dawn of War 2 around the corner and I'm wettin' my pants to play it)

You'd think with the gazillions of dollars a month they get from WoW subscriber fees, they could devote huge resources to game development and get them out quicker while maintaining quality. Also did I just read that correctly that Starcraft II will be released in three parts? Does that mean three times the cost?

I believe there will be a separate box for each campaign, but each will be cheap. I reckon it'll all total the price of one game.

I don't like the fact, that they will release 3 different StarCraft 2 versions.
Youre only able to play one campaign with one race in each version, so you need all three...
Activision is using Blizzards success for getting big money, cause the other crap games don't sell that good and lower their income...

One campaign in SC2 is just about then length of all the single player content in the first SC game.

ive NEVEr been able to stick to games and get as much play time out of them as i do blizzard games
From WoW to starcraft and diaboli 1, ive playedall their games and i regularly play warcraft 3(and dota) still

as for the 3 games for one cost, i was hearing it was going to be a trilogy, so probably main game, then cheaper xpacs, who knows though
id efinatley wont buy 3 full price games on release day..and i doubt theyll try to release 3 campaigns in 3 boxes on the same day at once..thatll not sit well with anyone

+1 to that first part. I still play D2 and SC on occasion. And I play WC3 fairly regularly.

I hope the 3 box method they use will be affordable, but I guess only Activision knows right now. Sucks that it's the Terran campaign first, too. I'd much rather play Zerg or Protoss.
