Guitar Hero is one of the most popular music franchises in the world, and it is slowly getting expanded across as many devices as possible. From Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, down to Nintendo DS, Guitar Hero's got it covered. And now, as The Guardian reports, it is now coming to Google's Android phone OS.

T-Mobile announced the new game, which will be named Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile, to be the title that will kick off the new paid application service in the Android Market. The game itself will utilize the touch screen of the Android phones, and will initially feature 15 songs, including Black Sabbath's 'Paranoid' and 'Welcome to the Jungle' by Guns 'n' Roses, but there will be a new song release every month.

There's no word yet about pricing, but it has been revealed that there will be other games coming to Android, based on Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Tetris, and Monopoly. Exciting news for Android's Market, and will definitely kick it off to be a strong competitor to certain other mobile application distribution services. The question is, if Guitar Hero has already come to the Android market, why isn't it already on Apple's App Store?

Am I the only one who hates Guitar Hero? It's like learning to type all over again.

+1

I would rather get the satisfaction of learning to play the songs on a real guitar than playing dumbed-down versions on a plastic controller.

Something tells me you haven't played the game ;D

The game is alright, but I don't like playing songs I like. Metallica's One is already dead to me. I hate the song now.

Yeh the writer of this article doesn't have much knowledge, it's been out for a very long time on apple's store.

@n_K and danisflying527 -

It would be nice if you didn't publicly question information presented in this article, please. However, if something isn't right, by all means, please let us know the following way -

We have a 'Report a problem' feature on the Neowin news articles where you can inform us of these things. The news team see those faster than comments and they tend to not interrupt the flow of discussion. Please see this screenshot for a quick reminder or for more information, please visit http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=734026&st=0.

This time, I will forward this onto them for you using our 'Report a Problem' feature, but in future, it would be a great help if you could use this too.

Thank you

Yes, using the Report a Problem would be helpful.

However, I find you asking them to "not publicly question information" to be offensive. Everyone has the right to question everything.

I do apologise, dead.cell. I didn't mean to sound offensive when I wrote that and I asked these two users in a very polite manner.

There are three reasons I asked them not to publicly question information in the article.

1) It interrupts the flow of discussion regarding what the actual article is about (in this case, Guitar Hero arriving on Android phones).

2) The manner in which these two users questioned this article was offensive in itself, using phrases such as "WTF ur wrong" and "Yeh the writer of this article doesn't have much knowledge". Also, putting a pointless amount of question marks "???" does make a user's tone sound rude.

3) The 'Report a Problem' feature was created exactly for this purpose. This way the flow of discussion is not interrupted and also, a reporter's self esteem is not damaged. I merely asked them to use this feature as it really is helpful for the reporters and editors. We would like to try and prevent comments like the above in our news articles.

Again, I am sorry if I caused offense.

If you have any more questions, queries or problems, I will gladly answer them in a personal message

Thank you.

Also, to clarify, Guitar Rock Tour is not Guitar Hero - it's just another Guitar-Hero-style game.
#3.6 +dead.cell on 19 Feb 2009 - 17:23
No problem.

Discussions are commonly interrupted and users bash each other much worse than calling into question whether or not the author is aware of Guitar Hero, clones or not, are already available.

Whether or not the topic is up-to-date or credible is indeed relevant.

What isn't relevant is the "This is news?" bandwagon where an article based on speculation or editorial is slammed based on the user's personal opinion of what is and isn't news and their ideal vision of how this site "should" be. (especially when they contribute nothing themselves)

Not trying to flame, but people who use the argument that its stupid to play a plastic guitar rather than learn the songs, the whole point is that guitar hero is a game, its just for fun. Alot of the people that I know already play guitar including myself, I also think its a great way to let people hear more variety of music, I know I've picked up alot of different songs and bands from the game and I think its a great way to listen to bands you wouldn't normally listen to But I agree that playing it on a phone is taking away from the whole point of the game, which is to make you feel as though your playing the songs xD

Indeed. And I bet they are hypocrites and play FPS games left and right. I do however agree that mobile versions of GH games are ridiculous.
#6 +dead.cell on 19 Feb 2009 - 17:28
Guitar Hero World Mobile Tour... God, do they have some Microsoft folks helping them out with the naming scheme?
#7 Sam Symons Live on 19 Feb 2009 - 19:39
Pardon me on my excessive lack of knowledge, but I just need to clear something up. The game on Apple's App Store, shown here, is not Guitar Hero. It's 'Guitar Rock Tour', by Gameloft, not Activision. I should know, I own it. So please, next time you wish to question me on my knowledge, danisflying527 and n_K, be sure you know what you yourselves are talking about. Thanks.

I played it and the game plays like crap, it is slow, buggy, and streams music to you phone. Really retarded, and for 10 bucks, i'd rather rent a flick or a game.
