The creators of the Rock Band franchise, Harmonix, have announced that a previously revealed version of the game based on the music of The Beatles will launch on 9 September this year. Simply named The Beatles: Rock Band, the game will include songs and visuals from across the super-group's entire career.

The game will be available for the XBOX 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii - although not for the PlayStation 2 as Rock Band 2 was - and will be released simultaneously worldwide in places including North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

The standalone game, which will be compatible with your existing Rock Band instruments, will retail at $59.99 (USD) or you can buy it together in a bundle with special editions controllers for $249.99, with the standalone guitars costing $99.99. Global pricing will be announced at a later date and the new hardware offerings will be modelled on instruments used by the band through their career.

Unsurprisingly, this is the first time that The Beatles' music has been allowed to appear in a video game but it has not yet been confirmed if the "Fab Four" themselves will appear in the game as playable characters. The co-producer of The Beatles LOVE album, Giles Martin, is to serve as Music Producer for the project.

You can sign up to get email alerts of when pre-ordering for the game begins at the official website. Fans pre-ordering the game will receive exclusive content created by Apple Corps, MTV Games and Harmonix over the coming months.

Yes.

I do not like this trend toward single artist themes, especially at full price. Something like this can easily be done through downloadable content.

When are they going to make Rock Band or Guitar Hero with deathcore and death metal songs, rather than all the overrated classic rock songs?

Hum, for a person like me who bought ROCK band, I would be so ****ed if there was only noise in my game.

Also, this noise is totally impossible to play on the guitar and vocals, let alone the drums. Death metal songs and deathcore stuff is for a minority of people, mind you.

If you want death metal tracks on Guitar Hero, get a PS2 and do some research on ScoreHero. Plenty of good stuff on there you might fancy.
