Crytek, the developer behind games such as Far Cry and Crysis Warhead, announced last week that they will be presenting their third generation engine at the upcoming Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. CryENGINE 3 is the first engine for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC (DirectX 9/10) that is "truly Next-Gen-Ready". The engine includes scalable computation and graphics for all major systems, the first development platform to include this feature. A third generation sandbox level editor will also be included that will allow developers to easily test what they have created. Additionally, the engine will come with new features designed specifically for consoles, massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs), and next generation game development.
Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek, said in an interview that the new engine will help to deliver next generation titles while still taking advantage of financial resources. "With CryENGINE 3 we are delivering our best game development technology that enables our clients to achieve their vision on current and future platforms to develop games such as MMOs, action games and more. Our complete game engine solution enables realtime development, ensures teams are able to maximise [sic] their own creativity, saves budget and creates greater gaming experiences. Also with our solution developers can start working on their next generation games today."
Representatives from Crytek's Engine Business Team will be hosting a series of public presentations of CryENGINE 3 throughout the conference.
The following is the first video footage of CryENGINE 3 taken on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

I run it at 1900x1200 on my E6600@3.4ghz with a 9800GTX+ and 4GB of ram.
It's on high settings instead of max, but I seriously doubt your rig struggles as badly as you claim with some of the settings on max.
but i was wrong
I really think CryEngine 2 was awesome, because it looked fantastic even on medium settings, people were just offended they can't run it at high with their 3yo hardware (at the time)
Personally I played it on high.

Actually I would have agreed with mocax... you'd expect them to get better at coding the engine, to become more familiar with it's capabilities and to build upon it without increasing the sys reqs... but nope, they make an engine, pass it around, everyone screws it up and a couple of years later we get a new engine with the same sloppy, slow down coding.
It's all bull!
Make that 2012
We'll just have to wait and see their demos.
So how many games are going to feature this engine, how many look and play alike games are we going to get this and next year?
It's enough to just give up buying their recycled garbage altogether.
Isn't DirectX 11 around the corner?
So, you can't expect too much for directx11.

As a professional developer, I can say that DX10 was a big step forward in design of the API and specifications, even though I've never actually used it for any actual projects, but that's for compatibility reasons only.
Won't comment about DX11 as I've not read anything about it yet, but if it is about what I'm thinking (more general purpose programming) it shouldn't be as bad as you think.

In theory yes, Directx10 will give a lot of new functionalities for increase the performance but in a real world scenary, there are not a noticieable increase in the performance, blame to the drivers or directx api.
I think directx11 will bring physics, but right now you can use physx to achieve the same.
performance wise it su*ks ass .
for god sake crytek make a good game like crysis with great performance
not horrid perfornace(crysis ) in cutting edge rig
C2Q/Geforce8(as in 2007)
It's the same engine, it'll just internally optomise.
Check it out here.
