Halo Wars, the latest game to bear the name of Microsoft's favorite franchise, has recently eclipsed the one million copies sold mark. While that may sound somewhat impressive on it's own, you have to remember this is the first Halo game to step away from the first person shooter genre and lunge, head first, into the real time strategy category. That lunge, as it turns out, was well worth it and Microsoft is very quick to tout the fact that Halo Wars is now the best selling RTS title on any of the current generation consoles.

In addition to the one million copies sold, Microsoft also gave the following numbers regarding gameplay:
  • There have been more than 2.6 million multiplayer matches played
  • More than 118 years of time has been spent in multiplayer matches on Xbox LIVEŽ
  • On average, more than 200,000 Halo Wars fans have taken up arms in battles between the UNSC and Covenant each day
Microsoft isn't done with Halo Wars, either. They promise more content, for the game, will be delivered in the future. When we get more information on extra content, we'll be sure to let you know.

Halo Wars is pretty cool but I got a little bored with it after a while

I expected more out of the game actually. The commercials hyped it up a bit too much.

Really? The commercials aren't really all that fancy...

My roommates actually thought the game was an FPS since the commercial did nothing to actually describe it.

I want to play it however i will have to hope it will come to PC my 360 went RRoD a long time ago and im not sure i want another one.

I played the demo and they did a really good job of puting a RTS game on a console but I still prefer these type of games on a PC. If it were cheaper I would get it, but $60 to play a RTS game on a console isn't worth it to me.

Yea, not the kind of game i play on a console system. Will play it if it comes to the PC.

Like a puddle after a summer shower.

You'll need Windows 7 for those games!

There have been more than 2.6 million multiplayer matches played

So if it sold 1 million of copies, then people has played (online) the game only 3 times.

#6.1 vetbangbang023 on 23 Mar 2009 - 16:02
A lot of people may only play single player.
#6.2 GP007 on 23 Mar 2009 - 17:32
Don't online RTS matches last longer than the typical FPS online round that's over quick?

And I'm sure they'll bring this over to the PC in time, probably adding 360 vs PC online play would be nice.
#6.3 +dead.cell on 23 Mar 2009 - 19:32
Yeah, it really depends on who's playing. I remember playing Tiberium Wars and seeing the other 3 players already have a giant fleet of aircraft and such while I was still trying to get the basic structures squared away.

Needless to say, those matches did not last long at all...

They kept a number of members from the studio, though. Combined them with the guys who worked on Civilization, I believe.
#7.2 GP007 on 23 Mar 2009 - 17:33
That sounds better, both are RTS games so it makes sense to bring them all together into one team.
#7.3 vetbangbang023 on 23 Mar 2009 - 18:51
Yeah, that's why I wasn't too upset about the break up of Ensemble.

I'll be interested to see how they offer more content when Ensemble studios aren't in business anymore!

Awesome game though

The developers are still associated with Microsoft under the new grouping with the Age of Empires devs.

Average RTS to be honest and i'm beeing generous here. Remove Halo from the title and it would not sell even half of what it sold.
