As the big announcement (well, depends how you look at it) that the Sony's tried and tested Playstation 2 system is now $99.99 starting today, Sony didn't forget the about other rumour that has been going around about the PS2's big brother. As reported by Neowin last week, Sony, who very rarely ever comments on rumours, has come out and outright denied a a price drop on it's Playstation 3 console.
"As we have stated previously, we do not have plans for a PS3 price drop, and any rumors to that effect are false and are the result of speculation. SCEA remains focused on the long-term momentum of PS3. With the industry's best software lineup this year, combined with our most aggressive marketing campaign to date, we remain confident in our approach and the value we're delivering with PS3."
As we cut through the PR talk from SCEA public relations manager Al De Leon, it's really hard to see what amazing software they have lined up for this year compared to the other guys. It is good to see that Sony has full confidence in their system, but at the big of a price point in todays volatile market, and increasing pressure from shareholders and publishers, is it really a good idea to be selling a console at that price point?

Oh and
It's really not, there's quite a few big titles aimed at this year/this fiscal year we 100% know about. They have more 1st party titles announced than anyone else right now.
I'm not wanting to start list wars under your article rajputwarrior, but I can tell you Sony definitely have a fair few 1st party exclusives announced for this year so far.
A few noteworthy released and/or unreleased so far for 2009
Killzone 2
Heavy Rain
inFAMOUS
MAG
God of War 3
Uncharted 2
Ratchet and Clank Future A Crack in Time
And some more recent announcements like
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
Katamari
That doesn't meant the competition has nothing, MS play a lot of their announcements close to their chest and release them to the public closer to release. Sony have always typically announced things early.
But I do feel your remark on software is a little harsh considering they have named more exclusives than any other company so far.
E3 will unveil more exclusives for both companies mind you.
people would have been waiting for a price drop and now they've clarified that there will be no price drop people may think "oh well i'll just grab one now then its not going to drop for a while"
