Assassin's Creed 2 details leaked

The first official details for Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed 2 were released after several people managed to get an early copy of the upcoming issue of Game Informer. As confirmed by Gamer Informer, Assassin's Creed 2 will be the cover story for the May edition of the magazine. Some of the features to be included in Assassin's Creed 2 are as follows:

New weapons to choose from including an axe, hammer, mace, spear, two different sword types, spear axe, and two smaller blades
The ability to swim
Leanardo Da Vinci's workshop and flying machine
Locations such as Saint Marks Basilica, The Grand Canal, The Little Canal, Tuscany, and the Rialto bridge
The game will open in 1476
You will play as Ezio Auditore de Firenze, a nobleman of Florence who is a descendant of Altair
People such as Machiavelli, Caterina Sofrza, and Lorenzo de Medici
New notoriety system
Each weapon has a special move
New way of disarming enemies by using their own weapons against them
Sixteen unique mission types
No pick pocketing missions
You will be able to see a street-side doctor when injured
Hidden objects
New opponents including archers, elite enemies, dagger wielders, armored troops and an intelligent halberd enemy
The ability to assassinate people while hiding in a hay bale
The Lorendo de Medici assassination attempt
A day and night sequence

Agreed. The first game looked incredible and was... for about an hour, then you realize it's the same thing over and over and over and over

I think the first one had proof of concept, and I feel they will no doubt try to fix these mistakes.

I feel the same but the story I felt was really interesting to bad it was repetitive as hell
and after an hour or so lost its game play

i was wondering like, if there was any such thing as a full speedrun of assassins creed... that would be quite something to watch

I got 1000/1000 for the first one. It was fun and it the graphics are great. What more do you want?

I heard the character now has two hidden blades? From the cover of GameInformer it shows two blades and this time and with the new amount of side missions perhaps it could be a little less repetitive than the first one.

Can they get any smaller? AC2 is probably going good enough to play, can't be too sure since AC1 wasn't what it was hyped up to be.

Will we be seeing any guns? Europe acquired firearms in the 1300s, and if the game is set in 1476, our hero is sure to face arquebus-wielding foes.

You're referring to firearms, which were cannons and very uncommonly hand-cannons which were introduced into modern Europe and middle east. Muskets weren't introduced till the 15th century and only became commonly used in the 16th century. So possibly having one big boss with a pistol or musket would be practical, although he'd have to spend a minute reloading. So it'd be more comical to have him fire once and then wield his sword.

If you guys had watched the trailer, it shows him shooting out of his hidden blade sheath. The question is however, is that possible in those times. Also, wouldn't it have been better to stick with throwing knives? They are silent and accurate, while guns were noisy and hard to aim.

OMG this game really bored me. So repetitive...

I too found the first game to be repetitive and boring. But the game did have its good moments, and it managed to hold my interest long enough for me to finish the game.

I am interested in the second game. If they've learned from their mistakes in the first game, then it could potentially be good.

yeah same, and if they could just cut down on the cut-scenes (perhaps even make them skippable), although the ones in the last game did contribute to the storyline. Looks very interesting!

I enjoyed the first game, planning routes in and out for my targets, discovering little nooks and crannies of the cities, etc... This looks quite good, looking forward to this.

I really liked the first game I cant wait for this one. The setting seems like it could be really fun.

After having read a bunch of good reviews about the original game, I went out and bought it...wish I hadn't done it, played the game for 1hr and never touched it again.

Assassin's creed is a mixed bag. I may well be they fixed some of the major mistakes, mostly the repetitiveness. It will definitely be worth a rent like the first one was. Not sure if the gameplay will warrant a purchase at least not at 59.99. Most games today still aren't innovative enough yet the prices are the same or higher.

Woo another education in next gen gameplay. I'll stick with the more basic stuff with actual plot devices and enjoyable gameplay encounters thank you.

Yea the missions were repetitive but jumping on somebody, and sticking a knife in their neck never got old for me.

I actually enjoyed the the game, but it was definitely repetitive. I also enjoyed Prince of Persia... so I've got an obvious bias.

I can't wait to see what these "Sixteen unique mission types" will entail.

My copy of the first game hasn't even came out of its paper cd holder yet - (it came free with my graphics card). Maybe I should get round to playing it?

It would then also be officially the first game installed on my system, oh dear, that means I haven't played AoE in a long long time.

Can't wait. Really liked the first one, even if the whole animus storyline was bull**** and there was nothing to do but collect flags once you completed the story. Hope they focus more on improving the gameplay than continuing the story.

what does "day and night sequence" mean? that its gonna be a one time thing? we want day/night cycles!!

Please, please, please let there be true day/night cycles! I loved the first, but it became very suspicious when Altair kills everyone at noon.

The first game was just ok - it would have been good, maybe even very good, if it wasn't so very repetitive. Hopefully they'll vary things a bit more this time around...

They are, there are going to be 16 different mission types.

I think what people need to remember is the first AC was a proof-of-concept. They were trying to build something new, so inevitably it was a bit (ok very) repetitive. The same goes for other firsts like Mirrors Edge, it will take until the 2nd to make a better game as they don't have to start from square one, they can just build and improve on the foundations.

I hope you're right. History dictates otherwise, unfortunately.

I love how so many people both here and net-wide seem completely willing to blow this game off before seeing any solid details on it. And as if the first game were truly that terrible, either. If it was so bad, I wouldn't have been able to play through it twice (once on 360, again for the PC), enjoying it both times, despite the admittedly repetitive gameplay. But that repetition was fun enough, and the production values massive enough, to keep me entertained on both playthroughs.

Even if you somehow couldn't stand the first game, do you think Ubisoft would be so dumb as to ignore every bitching word they've heard about the game thus far? Do you think they wouldn't try to fix what could have used polish and better ideas? Honestly, how can you dismiss a game without knowing a thing about it, besides some blurbs from a magazine?

I too believed the first game was very repetitive, I ended up trading it in for a different game at game stop (I had it on PS3). The graphics were great, the sound was good, the story seemed very interesting, but I remember it getting very, very repetitive.

How ever, I have decided to purchase the game again via steam for PC. I have started to play through last night, and was having fun running around. I am going to try and finish it this time around. I also believe that with the second game, the gameplay will be much improved. We will see, though.

I can not wait for this to be released!

I love how most people say they hated the game because it was repetitive. What single-player game isn't repetitive? You're always going to be doing the same missions/levels, using the same weapons/attacks, and fighting the same enemies. AC is no different than any other game.

Yup. Repetitive and boring. If it's not because of the graphics, I'd probably be ignoring all of the sub missions altogether

I have still to complete the first one. When I got Call Of Duty 4 this got put to the back of the drawer !!

It didnt bother me that it was repetitive...the storyline was fantastic! And when i finished it I knew there was going to be a 2 so I give it 10/10.
