Confirming earlier speculation, Left 4 Dead 2 was officially announced today at Microsoft's E3 press conference. Sequel to Valve's cooperative first-person shooter, the game will be set in the Southern United States including Savannah and New Orleans.

"A large part of how Left 4 Dead became 2008's top-selling new IP on Xbox 360 and the PC was the custom-tailored gameplay made possible by the AI Director," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "With the knowledge gained from creating the original, new technology, and a passionate team, L4D2 will set a new benchmark for cooperative action games."

Players will be able to choose from four new characters as well as five new campaigns. The game will feature new weapons such as a chainsaw, frying pan, axe, baseball bat, and more. Additionally, the AI Director has been updated to create both a unique and challenging game session by giving the director the ability to change weather effects and move objects.

"Introducing the AI Director 2.0, L4D's dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players' performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played."

"Featuring new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original with more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, and maps for Survival mode available at launch."

Left 4 Dead 2 will be released on November 17, 2009 for the Xbox 360 and PC.

I loved the first, so I will probably get this, but now I feel like I got ripped off on the first. They should've at least put out some more maps/campaigns (or just finish the SDK).

Hmmm it feels to soon from L4D to be doing a sequal I rather this have been a DLC and have had a game like HL3 announced or maybe a new IP.

I agree. Whatever happened to new stuff coming out for the first one? I guess they just decided they'd like to be greedy and charge people another 50 bucks for 4 new maps and some melee weapons or something?

Good but if D3 comes out anywhere near then i won't be buying L4D2

TBH i wish I didn't buy L4D

It's so hard to get a game going some nights and other nights you can't join your friends in a server because its full of randoms

I played Left 4 Dead 1, it was awesome, only wisgh I had a good broadband connection to play it on-line. The video looks great, and with thee new weapons, characters and campaigns I bet Left 4 dead would rock. I hope the new AI director would make the game much more interesting and fun.

They should release it as an expansion pack for $30. That would be more fair imo. I don't want to pay another $50 for a few new maps and weapons.

I hope there is some sort of discount for people who bought L4D1

I loved Left 4 Dead, but it's a half finished game. The amount of bugs and lack of content are shocking, especially when they will be charging us full price for what can only really be classed DLC.

Unless I hear some amazing reviews of it after its released, I won't be getting L4D2 until they have a cheap weekend on steam or its retails at around £15 - £20

way too early for a sequel.. this should be DLC, the 4 campaigns for l4d were not nearly enough.
