Looks like an apparent release date has shown up for Gran Turismo 5 for the Playstation 3 console. The popular online British entertainment retailer, Play.com, has penciled in a release date of November 27th, 2009.

When asked to comment about the date, Play.com responded with "Please be advised that the release date currently listed on the website, the 27th November 2009, is as given to us by the publisher / manufacturer or The Game. Should this release date change we will update the website accordingly, so it is worth checking periodically Play.com.

This date is given by Sony Computer Entertainment or by Polyphony Digital. This means that Gran Turismo 5 is finally able to play this year! November 2009, the race game where each race freak waiting to be released in the UK! Hopefully we will hear soon what Sony itself, here we have more information. Once we know more we'll tell you, of course, as soon as possible to you!"

Whether this is valid or not is yet to be seen due to the fact there has yet to be any sort of official statement from Sony or Polyphony Digital, the creators of the games. If this is true, it's going to be an interesting Christmas battle between Turn 10's Forza 3 and Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 5 for racing simulation supremacy.

Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi has also revealed a new feature for Gran Turismo 5 that will allow gamers to share whatever car they have earned or bought in the portable iteration of the title to it's bigger brother on the Playstation 3.

Yamauchi added that he wanted the player to feel like they actually owned the car, and that these cars would be able to be transfered to future Gran Turismo titles. "Whether it be from PSP to GT5, to even future renditions, GT6 and on, you can carry over the cars as YOUR cars, as something you own, even if the system changes, you can keep it."

Transfer between portable and console is a really cool feature. Encourages people to buy the game twice, but makes it worth it.

I really like the idea of going from 5 to 6.

I think they will be different games, except that they will share *some* cars (the PS3 version will probably have more cars than the PSP version, both may have different tracks or exclusive tracks and modes, etc). I bet they will give you more reason to buy it than just to have a mini-port.

November.....too long

I love the series. Ever since I randomly picked GT1 for my birthday (like 8 or 9), I have loved it and bought and enjoyed every game (except the Geneva edition). Can't wait.

It's just a date someone pulled out of their arse. I'm waiting till the official announcement from Sony/Polyphony. Any announcements like this that are not backed up by an official source, I dismiss immediately.

The date may be "made up", but play.com aren't the ones that made it up, the publisher (Sony) is. Retailers get advanced notice of when to expect titles for various reasons. Essentially, although the date may not be entirely accurate, at this moment in time it's what Sony is aiming for, so it isn't a bad estimate.

and a rep from Sony also denied the release date was from them, one of them is lying obviously but who? is anyone's guess. This is why I always dismiss these rumored release dates till the publisher officially announces the date.

Hmm...how do you spell digital? Digital or Digital??

Anyway, I don't see how it will be much of a competition for racing supremacy since both titles are exclusives on their respective systems. Forza 3 will be more successful just based on the number of Xbox 360's out there compared to PS3's.

Few spelling mistakes need to be corrected. Mainly in this sentence:

"Wether this is valid or not is yet to be seen due to the fact their has yet to be any sort of official statement from Sony or Polyphony Digatal"

It does look pretty amazing but it's going to have to be extremely special in order to bea Forza in the racing game market..!

It is essentially is competing against itself. Forza and GT is on different consoles.

And probably Gran Turismo is the one to be beaten as opposed to being the pretender.

Well they are in direct competition, they are both AAA guaranteed system sellers. If Forza 3 outdoes GT5, what incentive is there to buy a PS3? and if you only have a PS3, well you might be tempted to get a 360 to get the superior game. Both these titles will move consoles no sweat, the real question is how many? maybe I'm just talking nonsense again but I hope someone gets what I'm trying to say...

Well having never played Forza I can't comment on how well it will do. But I was originally hooked by GT3, and have never looked at any other racing sim since. I will definitely be picking up GT5 for my existing PS3.

I may be a little out of the gaming scene, but I don't think any other game including Forza has the pulling power of the GT series. Certainly wouldn't make me want to buy an XBox when i already have a PS3 with other awesome games.

...christmas battle between Team 10's Forza 3 and Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 3 for racing simulation supremacy.

i thought it was GT5 not 3 lol

Anyway, this game really needs to be special since its been in development for sooo long but an xmas release date would be good

It's also Turn 10, not Team 10 that make Forza!

To be honest the way Forza 3 is looking, I don't think i will bother with GT5 now. Looks like stiff competition to me.
#7.1 HalcyonX12 on 21 Jun 2009 - 14:26
You haven't really played either, and not all details have been revealed... You are just basing this on graphics? Forza 3 may be a better game, but we won't really know until they're both released. In simulation games, control and features are very important.

The points where Forza has always been better than GT, but now it's also caught up in graphics

Other than being upscaled from 720p to 1080p, whereas, GT5 is native 1080p. And more polygons per car in GT5, and more cars in GT5, and more realistic tracks (none deviate from RL by more than 5cm). Yeah, sure Forza's caught up.

"as given to us by the publisher / manufacturer or The Game"

Wait, who/what is "The Game?"

I'd be ASTONISHED if GT5, as amazing a game as it's likely to be, ends up beating Forza 3 if ONLY beacuse the number of "boots" on the ground. WOuldnt GT5 need nearly 100% attach rate to equal numbers of the standard fare AAA title for the 360?

I personally know of 3 people who will be buying a PS3 and GT5 when its released. I think the'll sell a few copies more than you'd expect....
Id imagine a fair few PS3s will be sold on the back of the GT5 release. Same goes for when the next Final Fantasy games are released.
#9.2 +jzetterman on 21 Jun 2009 - 16:58
That's what I was trying to say above, Forza will be a much better seller for the simple fact that there are way more Xbox 360's already out there.
#9.3 mornelitheVT on 24 Jun 2009 - 01:24
Considering Forza's sales #'s and GT's, I'd actually have to go ahead and disagree with you there. The 'demo' as so many bots like to call it, in physical format, sold 3.06 million. Forza 2, the full game, sold merely 3.99 million. Now, imagine what the full version of GT is going to do. I know there are a great many people out there who want GT. And, one must also take note that the lowest selling 'full' Gran Turismo game, is hmmm, just shy of 10 million units (9.37 on GT2 for accuracy sake). Call me crazy, but I'm thinking it'll be a good holiday competition.

we all will be dead, by the time this game hits the shelves.
#10.1 Davo on 21 Jun 2009 - 19:53
Yeah seriously.

One thing I love is the new buzzword "AAA title". How can a game that hasn't come out be beyond a grading scale?
#11 kazuyette on 21 Jun 2009 - 20:02
GT 5 is getting a release date ? LOL !!!
#12 Rolith on 21 Jun 2009 - 23:20
Didn't the next GT have a release date? That date being "launch window of PS3" oh wait >>
