After several weeks of rumors, the new World of Warcraft expansion, titled Cataclysm has been announced at this year's Blizzcon. At the conference several details were described but there is still no estimated release date other than the ambiguous 2010.

Two new races have been announced for each faction. Joining the Horde are the Goblins, from Kezan, who are now at war with the Alliance. The Alliance are now allied with the Worgen, cursed citizens of Gilneas in the Eastern Kingdoms. The last time new races were added to WoW was in 2007, when Dranei and Blood Elves were added with The Burning Crusade.

Other changes include a raised level cap, from 80 to 85, and an entirely redone Azeroth at war with Deathwing and in the middle of the Cataclysm. Several zones have changed factions and those with appropriate rank can now use flying mounts in Azeroth.

Cataclysm marks the third expansion to the World of Warcraft, the most popular Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game online with over 11.5 million players. For more information on Cataclysm, the new races and to view the first trailer check out the official Cataclysm page.

Damn, there goes another chunk of my life staring at the exp. meter...

It will be interesting to see how they time the release of this with Diablo III, my guess is that a lot of the WoW players are going to jump the wagon once it's released (myself included).

they've taken dev's from SC2 for WoW, im sure theyre doing the same with D3. My guess is theyll let WoW run its course(this is the last xpac probably, since theyre killin off alot of key characters with it)..

The only game to kill WoW, will be another blizzard game

I love wow + BC, that was when you had to work for something fun big. Now its just easy sauce but as a fan of wow and blizz i'm comeing back to try the Goblin race out.

Well, some elements of wrath are certainly challenging but nothing like Burning Crusade. The "hard modes" make it more interesting for the better players, but the heroic instances are nothing like heroic's were in BC. Last week I was in a group with this absolutely terrible druid tank. He was pulling a whopping 300dps (i'm not even sure how that is possible). We managed to get through the heroic, if it were BC we would not have made it pass the 2nd pull before everyone left.

XP Cap 80-85? are they serious?
I don't see why people aren't playing EVe Online, no level cap and no stupid fee's for expansion packs.
What about everquest 2? most expansion packs change the lvl cap to 10-15lvl's higher than it is.

How about some new gameplay within azeroth maybe?

you didnt read any of it did you
they are redoing alot of the azerothian zones like desolace and the barrens, as for the lvl cap, the number is irrelevant, itll take a cpl weeks or more for most ppl to get from 80-85, AND with WoW the content really takes off with endgame
Most MMO's die because they dont have endgame content, you lvl to max and you're bored, with WoW thats different
i quit WoW just cause i got through content too fast, but they had more of it than any other game ive played

Big problem I hear with Aion Online too is that there's no endgame. Not sure how true that is, as a friend of mine told me that. He's still interested in playing it though at least.

Creating content for leveling is one thing, but making leveling fun is another. Looks like that's really what they're aiming for this time around too. Look forward to it.

Not exactly. Milking their investment requires dishing out the same crap, in greater quantities. Each WoW expansion has made drastic changes to the game world, introducing new ways to play and so forth.

Cataclysm will too offer an entire new experience for those leveling new characters, including the new races as well, and a fundamental change in the way leveling takes place in the last levels. This is something all game developers can learn from, as Blizzard has a lot of experience in this department, and know damn well just how tired we are as players of playing the game the same way again and again.
