Kotaku has revealed the opening footage of Activision's upcoming game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The video can be watched here. If you'd rather not spoil it for yourself, don't read the next paragraph.

In a pretty disturbing introduction, the player starts the level from a lift in an airport, before open firing on a large crowd of civilians. In one instance the player open fires on a civilian dragging another man to safety, before shooting down a mob of people fleeing for their lives. Eventually, the player reaches the outdoors, where a team of soldiers are waiting for you and your accomplices. Making it through the ambush, you reach your getaway van, but as you climb in you're shot point blank in the face by one of your teammates. Left for dead, the police find you as the screen fades to white.

Activision have yet to comment on the video, but YouTube have already removed the video. Due for release November 10th, the game has already been rated M by the ESRB and MA15+ by the notoriously overprotective OFLC, indicating that a delayed release because of the opening is unlikely.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be available for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Its gonna be intense.

@TOOLaudiofan: love the name haha im a tool fan. But, as far as your first pre order with a midnight launch goes, good job bud! My first one was Halo ODST, it wasnt this big but it was fun, people are fun at these things. But if you pre ordered at gamestop, let me tell you, if your the first 100 people, youll get a monster energy shot. They sent us some and every gamestop should be getting some. Well atleast those doing a midnight launch.

I cant WAIT!

I'm having a hard time deciding wheter i like this idea or not.
It's great to see designers take an extreme idea and make it a reality. I'm looking forward to feeling slightly uncomfotable playing it.
However i'm old enough to handle it, so my toughts really are with the thousands of kids that might be affected by this type of gameplay. I know you will say: "It's M rated, not for kids" but kids will play it anyway and parents will buy it anyway.
I think most old gamers may be starting to realize that some of the things we see in games and television are not suitable for kids at all. I remember growing up around movies and games with adult rating that were not even half as violent as the thigns we see today in PG13 movies.

Games like these should and must exist. But for them to exist the ratings must work or else we are really going to mess those kids.
