Google Android Prototype in the Wild

Here's the first gorgeous shot of an Google Android prototype in the wild. It looks HTC-ish in build, similar to the grainy versions we've seen in the official videos and the renderings in the SDK emulator. Our source, a Giz reader, had some feedback to add to the prototype, which he used for a day: Even in early form, it's light and fast, much faster than the desktop emulator at times. And as a longtime programmer, he thinks it's a lot more put together than Window Mobile 5 on the back side of things. It's a prototype, so things will obviously change, but these are all great signs. I just pray that hardware by other makers is a lot more adventurous. In my mind, those HTC designs remind me a little too much of WM and will for a long time.

Can't they istall Android on GreenPhone ?

Linux open soruce phone + Linux opensource phone OS

or does that make too much sense...

Anything with buttons on it will not break Apples iPhone or HTC's Touch (i think it's called that).

It needs to be touch screen only and then it'll have a chance but I hope that's just an idea and not even a prototype!

It's not like serious people buy iPhones.. I'd get a Nokia E60 over an iphone any day. In fact I'd never get an iphone just because it has touch-only input.

Are you seeing more images than I am? I see a wallpaper, standard battery, time, signal type indicators, and a bottom interface, apparently slideable. The UI looks like it would work well with buttons or a touch screen.

The physical device that Android is installed on looks homely. Large keyboard is a matter of taste and user preference, but the navigation section right above it looks horribly out of place.

About what you would expect from a prototype.

No one cares about the prototype. Android is not a phone, it is complete platform for mobile phones. This means that there could be a lot more prototype modules from all companies which are in "The Open Handset Alliance".

I think that this prototype (the same we saw in the first videos, where it was presented) was used for the whole time to test Android during the early development stage. But that is not an actual model which would be released on in the wild.

Gorgeous? Well, it definitely looks like it belongs in the wild.

It looks way more like a Moto Q than an HTC, only with less class and power.

Eww, I'd use a Windows SmartPhone any day over that! Presumably its just some kind of beta, though.

When I read that title I pictured a humanoid robot, about three feet tall and carrying a gun. My comment was going to be that if Google keeps going in this direction, their monopoly would represent the end of civilization, not just the end of the internet.
