Google expands personalization with iGoogle

Google Inc. is stepping up efforts to allow its users to personalize how they search the Web, moving beyond the one-size-fits-all approach to search it already offers.

Officials told reporters at Google's Silicon Valley headquarters on Monday of moves to allow users to share their own writings, photos, lists and other creative efforts, as well as to give consumers personalized views of the Web through use of their geographical location and search history.

The world's top provider of Web search services is bringing together the more idiosyncratic approach to finding information on the Internet under the umbrella term "iGoogle", the new name for its enhanced personalized home page services.

"We want to personalize the traditional notion of search," Sep Kamvar, lead engineer for the personalization push, told reporters. "I am an eclectic person. But everyone is. We can't go about designing products for the average person."

Only losers with no creativity put "i" infront of a word to make it look cool. Unlike "Pod" or "Phone" Google actually sounds better without the i infront.

*yawn* , Sorry to say, but this isn't really anything big or new.

I think people like yourself make comments like this to draw "attention" to themselves. No other way to do it, but on the internet right? I guess your attention span in the real world doesn't exist too much.

What does drawing attention have to do with ones attention span? You do know those are different things right? And like everyone else who posts, I voiced my opinion on the subject. Maybe you don't have anything better to do then get online and attack people?

What opinion? Half of your posts contain that everything is OLD NEWS. Wow, how inspiring.

It's kinda funny that you cannot seem to figure that out. You had enough "attention" from me now. :cheeky:

Hehe, same here :)

The theming is actually kinda old, but I think previously only available for US residents.
Seems they finally got around to add it internationally now. :)

(you can change themes too, and they should vary by season... so a bit weird that it is a snow theme, hmm)

Ok my mistake, it was actually the Sweet Dreams theme, but it was still set for the middle of the night, hence the purple sky and white decoration (making me think it was winter  )

Its not showing the middle of the day :D

Sweet themes, I like them

Yeah i've been using the "Beach" theme for a month or so now. Its quite nice. I put my zip code in and throughout the day the position of the sun and the color of the sky changes. Pretty neat.

When we look at all the iPhone **** that happened, you're 100% right. Apple does not own the iNames... :\

Lol same here.

And why the hell would you want to personalize a search engine? I mean ok you can FILTER but adding themes and the glitter isn't necessary.
