Google holding press event Oct. 29; spoiler for Windows Phone 8?

Is Google planning to rain on Microsoft's parade? It sure sounds like it. A number of media outlets got invites late on Wednesday asking them to attend a Android-themed press event in New York City on October 29th.

The press event, as reported by BGR.com, also happens to coincide with Microsoft's own Windows Phone 8 launch events, which will be held in San Francisco, London and other locations around the world.

So what does Google have planned for the assembled press on that same day? There have been rumors that the company is planning to reveal new Android smartphones with the Nexus brand, including one made by Sony. There's also a lot of evidence that there is a 32 GB version of the recently launched Nexus 7 tablet coming very soon.

Google and Microsoft held dueling press events earlier this year at NYC when Microsoft and Nokia revealed the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 and Google countered with new Motorola RAZR smartphones in September.

So it certainly looks like the next couple of weeks will see a ton of new tech product introductions and press launches, including Windows 8 and the Surface tablet on October 26th.

Sounds like both Apple and Google are slightly concerned about Windows 8/RT and Windows Phone... both companies are trying very hard to draw attention away from Microsoft's launch events later this month.

Funny thing is that both companies are locked as the duopoly in the mobile market. They are so scared that they want to strangle Microsoft baby in its bed before it starts to walk.

BTW, there is a rumor that Apple will start their mini Pad preorders on Oct. 26.

Yes, that is exactly what I was referring to.

So your saying October is off limits for releases? How about the Nexus phone range is getting its yearly spec bump.

This is Google's month too. For the past two years they announced the new Nexus phone in October. And in fairness to Apple, October has been a dedicated month for them as well. In all honesty, October is just a good month to release new tech so that it is fresh in everyone's mind before the holidays.

I think Microsoft should change their Date to an earlyer day and see what Apple and Goggle do.

Yeah because big corporations act like silly children at the school yard.

I don't think that Motorola event back in September got anywhere. At the end people still talked up the Nokia event more from what I saw that day. I dunno about this Google event but I don't expect much, the nexus line has generally not sold well. The star of the Android market is still the Galaxy line from Samsung and I don't see any other OEM, even with a Google Nexus label on the back to top it's sales numbers.

It has been widely reported that this event is about Google announcing a new privacy policy and advertising kits.

So Google AND Apple are timing their events rather... interestingly. Looks like MS has them concerned after all. I think MS has the upper hand really because it's launching multiple sets of software and hardware all at once (Windows 8 / RT / Windows Phone 8 + Tablets & Phones + Surface). It's just white noise to me what Google is cooking up. Apple events are at least a bit more interesting if not overly pretentious.
