Google responds to FTC's antitrust investigation

On Thursday it was revealed that the US federal government, via its Federal Trade Commission, was going to start an investigation to see if Internet company Google was violating antitrust laws. Today, Google responded to the FTC's probe of its company via a post on its official blog site by Amit Singhal, the head of Google's core ranking team. After admitting it had received an official notice from the FTC about their investigation, Singhal wrote, "We respect the FTC’s process and will be working with them (as we have with other agencies) over the coming months to answer questions about Google and our services."

The FTC's probe seems to be centered on Google's ad businesses. In Google's response. Singhal admits, "It’s still unclear exactly what the FTC’s concerns are, but we’re clear about where we stand. Since the beginning, we have been guided by the idea that, if we focus on the user, all else will follow." He also goes over several bullet points to prove that Google's tries to make its user experience easy to navigate. It also tries to prove that the company reveals a lot of info about the data it generates to the public and also says that its paid ads can always be distinguished from Google's regular search results.  In conclusion Singhal writes, "These are the principles that guide us, and we know they’ll stand up to scrutiny. We’re committed to giving you choices, ensuring that businesses can grow and create jobs, and, ultimately, fostering an Internet that benefits us all."
