Google Voice down for outgoing calls

Users are reporting that Google Voice is having issues making outbound calls. According to TechCrunch, when people make outbound calls, it just rings incessantly even if the recipient picks up. For users who use Google Voice as their primary means of communication, this is very troublesome. A few minutes of email downtime is one thing; losing your phone functionality is a whole different level of crippling.

The issue is only affecting outbound calls, and you're still able to use Gmail's voice functionality. Google released a statement, saying, “We’re aware of the issue, which is affecting some Google Voice users, and are working on a fix.”

Google has had issues with services going down in the past, but many will be especially irked by the downtime of Google Voice. Many use this as their primary means of communication, and this can be compared to AT&T having an outage in the middle of the day. Hopefully, Google will fix this ASAP, so stay tuned as more details emerge.

I use google voice primarily, but I can still use my regular cell number to make calls if I have to. Its not the end of the world by a long shot.

I had problems this morning (Texas). No calls would go through, just keep ringing then eventually a busy/error sound.

Haven't tried since then...

Who in their right mind is using Google Voice as their primary means of communication?

A lot of people do. Whats the problem?

I dont personally, but many people do. GV went down for a little while just like normal phone companies do. no big woop IMO. GV goes down, use your reg number until it comes back up.

No problems with Google Voice here in phoenix AZ on my Verizon phone.

Also can make calls from my browser using Google Voice just fine..

at least with local phone companies when something goes down its localized to you are or exchange not the whole network... when google voice goes down, everyone is affected.......

Hmm, no issue here. Anyways, its outbound calls only, and isn't affecting everyone. That's one easy to access option in google voice settings to using your standard cell provider number for outgoing. Incoming calls are not effected, so you're not missing anything, you can still make calls, and its only temporary. Free service people.

Apparently everyone is not affected by the issue. This is no different than a phone company losing service in the area.

I tried google voice and still have a number. Just never got used to it or wanted to use it. But its kinda cool to listen to and save VMs on the computer and makes it easy to send texts as well. But to each their own I guess...
