Grand Theft Auto III coming to mobiles for 10th anniversary

Remember the time you stole your first car? Rockstar hopes you do, as it's laying out plans for the upcoming 10th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto III. We've seen a whole range of games in the series since then, but for a lot of people (myself included), Grand Theft Auto III holds a special place in their memories. After all, it was the first game in the series in 3D, as well as the first for the Playstation 2.

Most importantly, a port of the game is coming soon for a select few devices. Details of any changes are scarce, so for now all we have is the list of supported devices. They are:

Apple iOS Devices: iPad 2, iPhone 4S
Android Phones: Droid X2, HTC Evo 2, LG Optimus 2X, Motorola Atrix, Samsung Galaxy S2
Android Tablets: Acer Iconia, Asus Eee Pad, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

The list might seem short, but Rockstar are saying to "stay tuned" as more devices might be announced in the future. Interesting to note is the iPhone 4S is the only iPhone model that will be able to play it. Due to come out tomorrow, the phone will barely have cooled off on shelves by the time the port is released.

Other plans include a new Claude action figure, complete with prison outfit and array of weapons, and a special appearance at New York Comic Con. Attendees will be able to try out the mobile version, enter to win prizes, and look around a special gallery of game artwork.

The Claude action figure will be available for $149.99, but a price for the mobile port has yet to be announced.

Very exciting. This should mean that a vice city port its coming (the best gta). I would like gta1/London 1969/gta2 Ports too, they seem for suited to tablets.

China town Wars was to me more of the spiritual successor to the original series, a the game play was very similar, except with updated 3D graphics.

GTA III was probably my favorite in the series, but GTA II comes very close. I've always liked games where the main character deals with a lot of people but never says a word. I miss that style in the GTA series.

I love my wp7, but I wonder if it could handle GTA 3. Maybe dual core is required?

not sure if GTA3 will have comfortable enough controls to play on a phone, but GTA 1 or 2 should be good idea to port.

I stole my first car in GTA 2, then in 1, then San Andreas, then Vice City then IV.

GTA2 and SA are my favorites!

Bring those and we'll start talking...

Not liking the 4S exclusivity! I hoped to "be old" a few months later at least when I'm already gearing up for the iPhone 5...

I can't believe it's been 10 years. I remember playing the original GTA on my rubbish old PC and pointing and laughing at all those people that bought it on the PlayStation because of the really lame resolution on it.

Ah well. Time flies!
