Hoax Alert: Ballmer fires Microsoft employee due to Bing

Last week Mashable, "the social media guide", ran a story with the headline "Bing! Ballmer Says You're Fired" which contained a video of an alleged former Microsoft employee that had been fired for not being enthusiastic about Bing during a company meeting. It was claimed that Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's own CEO had laid-off the man himself.

As it turns out the whole thing is a hoax and Frank Shaw, Corporate Communications at Microsoft confirmed this in a comment on the Mashable post. "Please mark this as funny but not true" writes Shaw who also notes "this is clearly a hoax and you should mark it as such in the headline".

It appears this was a common case of post first and ask questions later. In Mashable's defense the author did state "we can't verify if the video is authentic in nature, but we have contacted the guy who uploaded it for comment". Unfortunately with a headline stating "Bing! Ballmer Says You're Fired" then many believed the video was genuine. Ballmer was famously forced to deny accusations that he threw a chair at ex-MS employee Mark Lukovsky who told Ballmer he was joining Google.

Warning: Video contains profanity

If your kids or such are around, turn the volume way down. There are a few cases of the F-bomb being dropped.

The video would be tagged NSFW in the forums.

yes, for the love of god turn the volume down, god forbid a child hears the fbomb. we all know that kids in school or not around their parents DO NOT use the fbomb, send nude pics of themselves to other kids over celphones, or have sex right?

Additionally, where's the fun if Mashable would tell of the hoax in the headline? Sure, they could do it at SOME point, like after the video concludes, but doing it in the headline as MS suggests is just pure idiocy and like giving away the punchline of a joke in advance. Just to be on the safe side. *sigh*

How could anyone believe the video is real.

Cause Ballmer's a bozo. A fat ****er who has no profile to be the CEO of a company with the importance of Microsoft. He would very well be capable of doing such a thing, he has done worst before.

Never saw the original article but the video is ****ing hilarious.

Considering that Balmer has jumped around on stage and thrown chairs around - stating that he fired someone for not showing enthusiasm about bing! wouldn't be too much of a stretch.
