Horror at Sony's depraved promotion stunt with headless goat

Electronics giant Sony has sparked a major row over animal cruelty and the ethics of the computer industry by using a freshly slaughtered goat to promote a violent video game. The corpse of the decapitated animal was the centrepiece of a party to celebrate the launch of the God Of War II game for the company's PlayStation 2 console. Guests at the event were even invited to reach inside the goat's still-warm carcass to eat offal from its stomach. Sickening images of the party have appeared in the company's official PlayStation magazine – but after being contacted by The Mail on Sunday, Sony issued an apology for the gruesome stunt and promised to recall the entire print run.

Critics condemned the entertainment giant, which produces scores of Hollywood blockbusters each year, for its "blood lust" and said the grotesque "sacrifice" highlighted increasing concerns over the content of video games and the lengths to which the industry will go to exploit youngsters. At the event, guests competed to see who could eat the most offal – procured elsewhere and intended to resemble the goat's intestines – from its stomach. They also threw knives at targets and pulled live snakes from a pit with their bare hands. Topless girls added to the louche atmosphere by dipping grapes into guests' mouths, while a male model portraying Kratos, the game's warrior hero, handed out garlands.

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea!

WTF were the organizers thinking???

I don't believe it.

After looking at the "source" I really think the story was totally made up. Not even Sony is that stupid. That "newspaper" looks like a slightly more believable version of the "Weekly World News".

Yeah, although this was pushing the envelope pretty hard, I don't see any particular problem with it. We kill animals all the time for food.

You know the most of the aminal rights people just see us as another animal, albeit one that learned to walk upright and use tools and such, and they seem have to no great issue with animals killing other animals in the wild for food. It's all just nature and survival of the fittest and all that. But when WE kill them for food, somehow it's a problem.

Well it's all just nature and survival of the fittest, and WE are at the top of the food chain. If they can't adapt to prevent us killing them, then that's nature too.

Seems like the animal rights people want to have it both ways. We're part of nature, and it's grand fluffy plan, UNTIL we assert our role in nature. Then we're not allowed to be part of nature any more, we have to protect it from us. Hypocracy at it's finest.

Not that Sony shouldn't be smacked upside the head for not seeing in advance how poorly this would be received in many circles, but the hypocracy of the PETA gang is even worse.

Sounds like some sort of greek orgy

It might still be a goat that we eat and stuff, but would it be alright to rip the head off of it at the party with their bare hands, and drink the blood on the inside? No. There are limits, guys

Stupid by sony, yeah. But do you think the goat cares. besides as far as I understand it was actually slauightered at a slaughterhouse first and they they stuff it's stomach.

Um. And what is wrong with meat eating? Let them do what they want, and nobody will look into your own plate..

Bit of a over the top stunt for a game tbh.

I don't know what idiot though they would be able to do this without recieving a lot of bad press.

i honestly do not see where they went wrong with this one. there are a lot of cultures that eat meals like that still to this day. i think honestly its just prudence that gets them in trouble on this one. too many people do not realize that what they are doing is very acceptable to a lot of cultures

eating meat in public?! how dare they! Killing an animal for it to be eaten?! What were they thinking...
I don't like meat much...I usually order a vegetarian platter when I can. But seriously, how is this different from what happens every day anyways? kill animals -> people eat meat. bleh

There is a huge difference between killing an animal for food, and killing an animal to use its carcass for a display that is both senseless and unnecessary.

Also, I love this new leather chair.

Ethics debate aside, the PR's done its job.

Their standard viewpoint is "OMG THE WORLD IS ENDING"

And they usually blame *insert none white middle class british people here*

For some reason their website has been getting a lot of attention recently.

I wouldn't trust this news as far as I could throw Free Republic's servers... Did you look at the other vitriolic crap they spew on their web site? It looks like a nutters' parade. :P

SO did the Japanese Shoodle story last week. Look how legit that turned out to be. (in case you live in a bubble, it wasn't true...). It all started in a UK weekly rag, too. I'd believe this if only because I hate Sony so much, but I kind of doubt this one is true.
