HP releases Windows 8 printing and image app

As more and more people gain access to Windows 8, new apps are also appearing in the Windows Store. One of those new apps comes directly from HP, giving owners of the company's many printers some direct Windows 8 support.

The HP Scan and Capture Windows 8 app is, according to HP's own description, "a simple and fun application that captures photos or documents from an HP All-in-One or your computer's built-in camera. These images can be previewed, saved, printed or shared to other applications."

The app can save images as JPG files and can also create single or multi-page PDF documents. The app's Windows Store listing also has a list of all the HP printers that are supported.

I have recently installed Windows 8 and found HP (surprise, surprise) didn't have any software for scanning with my HP printer in Windows 8. Apparently HP will not be producing/releasing Windows 8 software until Windows 8 is released to the public in October.
This is a real pain as I can get my printer to print in Windows 8 via wifi and also USB with the built in driver, but the scanning software isn't available and the Windows 7 software isn't compatible.
Ok the app isn't the best, but at least I can scan in Windows 8 now with my printer. I do hope that HP will release the complete software package for their printers for Windows 8? However, if this is their proposed path for Windows 8 for scanning etc, then it needs a bit more work to be something that I can use indefinitely.

App functionality might be good but the design is horrible, a black->white gradient, seriously? Headers aren't aligned with the listview,... just how drunk were they?

Metro, i mean Modern, is a guideline, not a rule. They can't force devs to make their apps not ugly.

such a waste of an app!

How so? I'm going to want to scan from my Surface RT to my OfficeJet 8600. This wasn't going to happen otherwise... so explain, how is it "a waste"?

It sucks I tried to download the App and it isn't on the store, I guess HP doesn't think Mexico is worthy of getting the app
