Internet Explorer 9 and Windows Live help Finns find love

The next version of Microsoft's ubiquitious browser could help you find true love, or recover from a broken heart - if you're Finnish, that is.

Microsoft blogger Long Zheng has come across a Finnish promo video for Internet Explorer 9 and the Windows Live 2011 suite which mixes tech with romance. While the premise may be cheesy, the production values are remarkably slick and the video shows a continued effort by the software giant to think outside the box when it comes to advertising its products. And as Mr Zheng points out, if nothing else, the Finnish ad is a good public service announcement against romantic tattoos.

Earlier this week, Neowin featured yet another quirky Microsoft ad, this time poking fun at a lack of Blu-ray support in Mac OS X.

There's no indication as to whether the video will feature in any upcoming Microsoft promotional campaign.

A public beta of Internet Explorer 9 was released in mid-September, and Microsoft has continued to release regular ''Platform Previews'' showing off new and updated features. The final release date for the browser has yet to be announced.

Update: According to the tags on the video's Vimeo page, the promo was shot using a Canon 7D DSLR.

Update #2: Mr Zheng has discovered yet another quirky video, this one promoting Windows 7 and Windows Live.

I loved the "InPrivate" : "I cannot let my friends know that I buyed tickets for that lame rockband"

Very good ad to me, good music and good editing, using a lot of functionalities from IE9 & WL. He should've had a WP7 though ^^

Ohhh now that makes sense

Why did he use InPrivate? I thought they were about to watch a porno at the coffee shop.

And... fail because of the tattoo. The chick probably dumped him because he was "getting too attached".

Well, that was intense. Kinda shocked me a bit, I do all the things he did too! Except win games, and get a girls name on my arm. Going to Starbucks right now to try his moves, you guys think it'll work with World of Warcraft? Maybe Lego Universe?

But seriously though, a bit crazy for me, but very cool ad anyways.

It's a great ad, even if you don't realize it. It's part of Microsoft new technique of linking deep and strong emotions to their products, like IE. Whether you like it or not, somewhere you will remember this add when using IE9 and you'll feel good about it. And the soundtrack and the filming are absolutely awesome!

1. What kind of girl would fall for a guy just because of his goofy smile?
2. What kind of guy would be an idiot for getting a tattoo of a girlfriend? Girlfriends are temporary, but tattoos are kinda permanent.
3. What kinda girl wouldn't break up with her boyfriend, before she finds a new one?
4. Plus anyone get a bit dizzy from the excessive panning shots, and rainbow brightness?

I do kinda like the soundtrack though (minus the computer sound bits). Though it'd probably sound better in a real movie or TV show. Sounds like something from Totally Spies.

Would have been better if he had tatooed IE9. Or maybe have read some of those 5 unread emails, probably one of Anna there breaking up

Very sad, but the guy never gives up, lol

Yes, the part when Anna leaves him is very shocking, but he always finds new love. Very touching and outlines the human spirit well.
