iOS 4.3 GM seeded to developers

ios43released

Apple has released the latest iOS firmware to developers today. The latest firmware update brings a number of stability improvements, usability enhancements, security updates and new features.

On Wednesday, Apple unveiled the all new iPad 2, which was seen running the latest iOS 4.3 firmware. The latest update to the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad will bring the long-awaited hotspot feature to the iPhone 4 and customizable mute toggle switch to the iPad.

The iPhone 3G isn't supported in the latest update, as all the new features added to iOS 4.3 do not support the iPhone 3G hardware. The latest update for the iPhone 3G is iOS 4.2.1, which was released on November 22, 2010, possibly the last update the device will ever receive.

There is also an updated version of both Xcode 3.2.6 and Xcode 4.0 GM Seed 2 to support iOS 4.3.

iOS 4.3 will be available to the public on March 11, 2011 and is only available for the following devices:

  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4
  • iPod touch 3rd generation
  • iPod touch 4th generation
  • iPad

I'm getting rather annoyed with the iPhone 3G.
Mines constantly call failing.
Calls lasting 10-30 seconds and call failing.
Apps taking 2-3 mins to launch
Apps Not launching.
Maps - Not trackin where i am on GPS or when im driving its taking Ages to update my location. To give me a false location.
Maps being slow and unresponcive when im trying to find a road.

The Usability of the phone is beyond the joke.
I'm now thinkin do i upgrade or what. but if i do i lose the unlimited internet on O2 Simplicity.
Do i get an iPhone 4 or do i go WP7.

I can tell you one thing my 3G is P***ing me off lately

I have the same problems!!! And it takes like, 15 seconds for a call to start ringing for me. I think I'm going WP7.

I've noticed a few UI tweaks on my 3GS which improves the overall look and feel of iOS. The new settings menu is much easier to use with more options on the first page rather than buried deep in menus. iTunes home sharing is a really cool feature. I could say my 3GS feels more snappier but that'll be down to the Restore.

I installed 4.3 on my iPad and I gotta say that I really missed the orientation lock/unlock function of the side switch. I have wanted it back since the morons decided to turn it into a mute switch that doesn't work in 85% of the applications. Other than that, no noticeable improvements.

I also can't find the Personal Hotspot feature on my iPhone 4. I've done a Spotlight search and nothing shows up.

I ended up finding it under General -> Network. For some reason, it doesn't show up when doing a Spotlight search.

Then pay the 99 U.S.A. Dollars as requesting a leak here is against the rules, and apple puts our developed ID's in the downloads!

Restoring...Too bad I won't get WiFi personal hotspot on my 3GS, but I'm really looking forward to iTunes home sharing support.

Restoring now... I'm sad that they are not supporting Personal Hotspot on the 3GS, but the device will be discontinued in a few months anyway. Looking forward to the Safari improvements though!

Odd... The Personal Hotspot feature is present on my 3GS after installing this, and it works as I've just connected my Win7 laptop to it!

It just works? No need alter anything with your data plan? I hope that's the case with AT&T.

I'm in the UK on 3. It'll eat into my data allowance but I get 1GB a month and I can't see myself using it that often to be honest. It's just a cool feature to have in case I took my laptop on a train or somewhere that doesn't have WiFi.

It works with my AT&T Apple IPhone 3GS, you do have 2 pay the extra 20 U.S.A. dollars 4 it to work however.

Just make sure your data plan has Internet Teethering on it before using it, 4 AT&T users, you need 2 make sure that you are on the 45 dollar data plan.

What date is it that 3GS goes EOL and where did you find that info?

I meant they will stop producing it when they announce iPhone 5, if they haven't already done do.

I was mistaken - it worked because I had it plugged into my laptop a la Internet Teethering.

Actually, it does work over WiFi on my 3GS!!!

iphone 3G support gone will annoy rather alot of people

Not really because iOS 4 didn't work too well on the 3G anyway it was slow, so not surprising Apple have finally dropped the support for it.
