iPhone 5 pre-orders start 12:01am PST on September 14

Apple has confirmed that they will begin online pre-orders for the brand new iPhone 5 at 12:01am PST on September 14. Sprint will also begin pre-orders at this time and Verizon a whole minute before at 12:00am PST. The tech giant confirmed the news with Wired.  AT&T is yet to confirm when it will start selling the device online, but it's likely to be at the same time as Apple.

The iPhone 5 which was announced yesterday is built from glass and aluminum and features a larger 4-inch display with a 16:9 aspect ratio (1136 x 640) and a pixel density of 326ppi, 4G LTE, and an A6 processor which Apple says is twice as fast for general processing and graphics rendering compared to the A5 in the iPhone 4S. The device comes in at just 7.6 mm, and weighs 112 grams. The display has 44% more color saturation than previous models, and new touch sensors that are integrated into the display. The rear camera has an 8-megapixel sensor, better low light performance and can capture images 40% faster. The camera app has also added the ability to detect faces, shoot panorama, and allow you to take photos while shooting video. The front FaceTime camera is now also 720p HD and you can use it over cellular.

i chose the white one. The apple store was down on desktops but worked on my iPhone. When the iPad3 came out it was delivered to me at 7.30am on launch day so hopefully the iPhone 5 will be delivered that well too.

Yeah, I have 3 phones (no need to name brands) that got broken when I threw them on the wall. The phone I had before that got broken when I swallowed it.
As for the iPhone. Aaaaamaazing. I can lick it all day and make love with it every.single.night. and it still works.

Damn, I just wasted 2 minutes.

Thanks for sharing this information with us. Maybe you should see a doctor.

Tell me, did they break them over your head by any chance?

SG3 is cheaply made I don't see a lot people buying one in the future. I just laugh at stupid people who bought outdated phone. Even the Nokia phone has better camera then it.

Lets see which phone holds it value the iphone or the SG3

Not everyone has good experience with Samsung phones... I love samsung products but sometimes their quality is lacking.

Public service announcement... if you're thinking about buying an iPhone 5 (or the new iPods) and using it with your car's iPhone/iPod dock, or plugging it into a treadmill or cross trainer at the gym, or even connecting it to a set of speakers you own.... well, think again.

You'll need a new car, a new treadmill and new speakers as the accessory adapter will not work with your current equipment. "Video and iPod Out not supported."

So is that really how that connector is going to work? Even if it's just a USB port on your car it will not read it and you'll have to use AUX?

I think he is specifically talking about things that have that 30-pin connector-type-dock that Apple used for the past 9 years. There is an adapter from the new connector to the 30-pin connector, but it looks cumbersome to use.

If keeping any 30-pin connector accessories is a priority then you probably shouldn't upgrade.

You got it Shadrack. Unfortunately though that description includes a LOT of equipment out there with the 30-pin connector, not least of all the millions of cars with the iPod/iPhone docks in their arm rests or glove compartments.

To my understanding the phone emits digital only, the new adapter simply changes the shape of the connector, not the type of signal, the old iPhone emitted both analogue and digital signals.

To get new iPhones to work with old equipment you'd need to modulate the signal from digital to analogue.

For information this is also how all the new Mac Video connectors work too:

In my experience nearly all computers that are not Macs have video cards which have combined digital/analogue (DVI-I or DVI-A) connectors. These basically emit both digital and analogue signals, and so depending on the screen you buy will depend which cable and which signal it uses, but both signal types are emitted from the computer. Meaning you can choose either screen type, and then have very few problems as almost all adapters will fit and you can usually get an adapter for $1, and no signal needs to be converted.

All new Macs (and now the iPhone) output only digital, meaning you can either buy a digital adapter if you have a digital device (this is what the new iPhone adapter is) or you need to convert the signal to analogue using a connector that is almost twice the size... unfortunately as of yet there is no announcement whether Apple will sell one of these for the iPhone, but no doubt someone will - the question is though how much will it cost?

EDIT:

Whilst their is no guarantee, in theory USB should be fine, as it is digital. The problem lies with things like sound systems that have the old Apple connector but only pick up an Analogue signal (which is all that is needed for music).

The confusion lies with that the face two things can plug into one another yet both are looking for completely different signals - its like having a key in the wrong door but its the same manufacturer and so it still fits in the keyhole fine.

They are going to have new adapters for your new iPhone 5 so they should work with your old/current accessories such as speakers, etc.

Just like you don't have a HDMI on your monitor... so you will need a HDMI to DVI adapter so it should work.

Apple and 3rd party companies are making those adapters for iPhone 5 for your old/current accessories you have... that way, you don't have to buy new accessories all over again.

Our store (at&t dealer) started taking pre-orders a few days ago. So far, we've got about 20 people give or take, which is awesome considering our personal sales rep quotas for the month are about 25-30. (We're in a small town). As much as I don't like Apple, we're thankful for the business flow. The 21st might be pretty hectic. Last year, we only got TWO 4s's on launch day. I hope there's more supply this time.

How can you take pre orders without any stock confirmation? What happens when people turn up on release day and you don't have their phones?

Honestly man, lol, the company is run horribly. I have no idea. That's exactly what happened last year and we had probably 2 weeks worth of rightfully ticked off customers. But last year, the way it worked was like this - Apple / AT&T asked us how many phones we needed. We request how many were pre-ordered plus some extra, but then they only sent us small percentage of the order. This year, we're ordering massive amounts. Assuming they're still just going to send a percentage, we'll at least have ample stock. And if by chance they actually send what we order, then we'll be stocked for a while.

So you inflate the number of preorders you have, other stores inflate the number of preorders they have. A few days later Apple announces "We had x number of preorders" when x is a highly inflated number.

I suppose, yeah. It's never like this with any other phone launch; we order an amount and we actually get them.

I feel for the poor slobs who have iPhones and still will feel they have to purchase one of these overpriced talking machines.

Same... I can't believe people will buy this especially ones that have an iPhone 4s already. I will laugh in anyone's face that tells me they upgraded from the 4s to the 5.

Why would you feel sorry for them? If they want to waste their money, it's their money to waste.
I just go by the Apple stores and laugh at them standing in lines for hours.

Wow. You have more time on your hand to waste than Apple customers. Bravo.

I think what he was saying was that he'd go by the lines and laugh, whereas the Apple customers have been in the lines for hours. Passing by = minutes, waiting = hours ∴ Apple customers have more time to waste.

Upgrading from iPhone 4. That means I'm OK then?
Becauses I really need the approval of some random anonymous forum poster before I get the phone that does what I need. /s

I guess I'm okay if I upgrade from my 3GS. Do I pass the test, boss ?

How about someone like me who is leaving my Samsung Focus behind? I loved the Windows phone for about a year but it's time to move from that platform. I don't like how wide the Galaxy is and really don't like anything that tied to the Google name.

Then enjoy it, bro! But, why not wait for Windows Phone 8?

If you can show me a Windows phone with the same build quality as the iPhone, I will surely stay! I'm just so tired of all plastic cheap phones out there. I will Google some Windows Phone 8 phones and make my decision before 12:00am. Thanks

Umm the iPhone is made of glass, not exactly the most *durable* material.

Have you not heard of the Nokia Lumia? I personally prefer lightweight thin "plastic" Samsung phones but a Lumia is exactly what you want.

Had a few people that I know that got really excited about the new iPhone. I pretty much told them if they want a bigger screen and LTE that by the 5, if not...keep the 4s.

People think just because something is new its 10 times better and they must have it. They dont take the time to research and see its not all that great. But Apple will sell a butt load of 5s....they always do.

The iPhone 5 is made of aluminium (except for the screen of course).

Why do you care so much what people do with their money?
