iPhone 5S images leak, dual-flash and larger battery included

It would appear that Apple is sticking to its iPhone business model as a plethora of images of the iPhone 5S have found there way to the Internet. While the phone will look nearly identical to the iPhone 5, it will bring along improved internals as well as a larger battery.

Macrumors has some information about the iPhone 5S including the image you see above; the new device will reportedly have a dual-flash for improved low-light photography. Along with the new flash setup, the phone will have an A7 chip inside and a larger battery.

Apple’s S line of phones have always been about internal improvement instead of a complete overhaul of the phone. Knowing this, these modest improvements fall in-line with expectations of the device.

The image at the top of this post is reportedly from December of 2012, so it stands that the dual-flash setup may not make it into the final shipping model.

The iPhone 5S will surely launch with iOS 7 that will be released this fall. It has also been rumored that Apple is currently working on a larger iPhone, but that device is not expected to arrive until sometime in 2014.

Larger battery? How much larger. A couple millimeters? If the 5S is going to be the exact same size as the 5, then the only way to make the battery bigger is they have to shrink the logic board or some of the other internals or really make the case thinner, which will make it more fragile.

Kinda like Nokia phones???

yeah, but Nokia phones use the white LED flash to focus - which means you need to fire the flash no matter what in the dark because you can't focus after turning off flash. Works great in slightly dim conditions though. I understand that PureView pretty much gets rid for the need for flash, but still. Teh focus, man.

omg a bigger battery must have this now! Can't wait for the iphone 6 i want an extra row of buttons and an extra led on the front also.

Really? That's so dumb. I'd rather get a Galaxy S4 because I want pictures with sounds!

I'm getting a Nokia Lumia 920, because it has *moving pictures* with sounds. Also, it makes tacos and ice cream, and smells of bakery fresh cinnamon buns ALL THE TIME.

Also, my nephew's classmate said that he heard his dad's friend tell his brother-in-law's cousin that the iPhone 6's battery will last four years without charging, and cure cancer at the same time.

I was happy with just rubbing my iPhone 5 and getting 5 wishes...even if one of those wishes was for another iPhone.

I'm excited for this update, not because of the flash, but actually about the bigger battery and the A7 processor. I think the A7 will be more efficient. In combination with a bigger/better battery and an optimized iOS7 the battery life can be extraordinary. The new Macbook Air also has an amazing battery life compared to the older model and other ultrabooks. If they can do the same trick with the iPhone 5s I think many people will love the new iPhone!

YUes because Haswell already improves the battery life in laptops. Optimizing your software to work properly with the hardware is a given. Without the hardware giving amazing battery-life, the software certainly cant provide it either. Justsayin.

So in otherwords they're not bringing anything new to the table...gotcha
I think we've known for a while that Apple has adopted a tick-tock release cycle. This is probably a tock - improvements on the previous release. New stuff will be coming next year.

At least he didn't go straight for the tired old 'No innovation here lulz'? So there is that.

New stuff will be coming next year? Aren;t you guys tired of saying that? Because it really never happens.

BTW it isnt new if someone else has it already. #justsayin

So by your logic, no phone release is "new". There hasn't been anything truly innovative on phones for many years now. It seems like it's only the critics that don't understand that concept.

Care to explain why you expect every new iPhone to be revolutionary and life-changing?

Why one of the leds is in different color?

might be different kelvin rating capable, or to balance out an issue with the image sensor and lighting, never know

It's likely used for red-eye reduction or focus assist.

If it were an underwater camera it would a lot of sense. I doubt it though. Wide wave lengths of light do not penetrate water easily and are lost quickly due to refraction. This starts to become an issue at around 20+ feet and using a red flash filter can balance out the tendency to shift to blue / purple since these bands of light are more prevalent.

Yeah... no... don't put this phone ANYWHERE near water

Did they have to throw it in the ground before taking a picture? People who can't hold a phone should use a Nokia...
