Job Opening hints at possible Google Mobile Phone

Is the Gphone really in the works? A recent job opening posted on Google Jobs seems to confirm the U.S. search-engine giant is researching and considering a mobile device: "Google is experimenting with a few wireless communications systems including some completely novel concepts. We are building a small team of top-notch Logic Designers and Analog Designers aimed at nothing less than making the entire world's information accessible from anywhere for free."

There aren't any facts yet, but there are rumours all over the blogosphere. One rumour hinted at Google teaming up with Orange to deliver a co-branded, Google-enable handset. Another claims Google and Samsung already have prototypes that they are working on. The mobile phone is definitely where a lot of money can be made, especially through selling content wirelessly. The market is, however, very saturated and Google will have trouble making something revolutionary that customers will truly want to get their hands on.

I've seen pictures today on an internet survey - it is simply STUNNING - makes the iPhone look like an old-fashioned brick.

GPhone will suck. This sounds more like a technology along the lines of those $5 routers that were publicly connectable.

Now that would be awesome.

Google failed in so much stuffs except few like gmail, (acquiring youtube), search, google earth, google ads...but it failed in lot of concepts, i dont think google phone will be revolutionary or free wireless provider...if at all it happens, rival telecom industry wont let google to survive in the industry. lets wait and see...

LoL...

I'm sorry but is it really necessary for google to try to be in absolutely everything? somehow it seems like this really isn't good for their business imo trying to get into every area instead of just staying focused in a few areas.

While I too would rather see companies focus on what it is they set out doing rather than try and get their hands on everything you only have to look at Apple to see that it's not a bad thing. Apple is a computer company that realisticly doesn't make a dent in that market, the ipod and most likely iphone on the other hand are another story.

The more [competition], the merrier.

And I totally agree with Blax, Apple blows at computers, but I do love my iPod shuffle. :O! I mean, for $80 for this tiny sh!%?! Hell yea.

It probably won't be long before Google starts catching the eye of antitrust departments. All it takes is one visible mistake to get the legal ball rolling (just ask MS).

Google is far away from even the remote chance of that scenario. Even their "dominance" in search is not even enough to be monopolistic.
