Jobs: Write for Neowin!

This festive season, Neowin has several news poster positions available, mainly for the GMT morning/daytime hours. If you have a passion for writing informative and inspiring news articles, Neowin might be the right place for you.

What are our expectations?

  • Be active: To be a full time News Reporter at Neowin we require no less than four articles a week, but the more the better. We pay our writers per original article depending on the comments/hits. This won't replace your full time job, but is an easy way to earn extra cash for a new gadget.
  • We expect all articles to be originally written, we have strict guidelines for approvals. You must be proficient in English and grammar. We understand no one is perfect, but we do have high standards in order for a post to be approved on the main page.
  • You need to be able to bite your tongue when negative criticism occurs. It happens from time to time, but remember you represent Neowin on and off this site.
  • Although not mandatory, living near a convention/tech hotspot would be a plus.

We do not assign people to different areas unlike other established news sources. Our writers will write from a variety of different categories.

Here's a general idea of what we cover here at Neowin:

  • Microsoft
  • Apple
  • Linux
  • Gaming
  • Software
  • Hardware
  • Gadgets
  • Mobile Devices
  • Editorials & Reviews
  • And anything else that's related to technology

If you feel you have what it takes to be a news reporter here at Neowin please use our application form:

Apply here.

Please give us at least a week to reply to you.

Thanks and Good luck!

Intriguing. I'll have to give this some thought.

By "mainly for the GMT morning/daytime hours", are you saying that news posters must be online and posting their article at that time, or is it possible to get an article approved and simply uploaded to the main page during that time?

We usually want to get news up as soon as possible so that it's relevant so if it's time sensitive (and most is), we won't hold it for the early hours.

Steve - you forgot to mention that the new applicants have to fetch us our coffee and bring us breakfast every morning...

Depending on where a new applicant lives, that could be EXTREMELY difficult!

That's their problem, not mine.

(for the humor impaired, we're obviously kidding about this )

Sorry, Fezmid, I was having a bad day when I replied to the original comment, and I was suffering humor impairment, and couldn't see the humor. My bad.

Hello,

We pay our writers per original article depending on the comments/hits.

Could you give more information? Do you pay them on comments or views?

Thanks

Based on views.

ahhh. that explain why most neowin articles have, to put it mildly, "incompatible" titles.

It explains the number of troll bait articles by some authors in particular too.

Must be a new rule

I wrote an article for free expecting to be put on the main page, the nwz-f886 in reviews for members, almost 3000 views and it was never put on the main page, I was going to expand it even more if it was put in there, but looking at how it was cast away, just because either it was another sony product or by the next gen wars, I pass.

I look for recent posts.

You see? this product, the NWZF886 was released at the beginning of november, after 2 years of sony being on hiatus with their own Walkman. I made the review when it was freshly received the preorder, right now it's still hot because they are also suffering too much supply demand... and, correct me if I'm wrong, but you are telling me that that post is old? ...

Probably your article got as much attention as Sony's product. Seriously they need to work on their product names. iPod like the name or not works for people. Why can't they just call it "Walkman". I never even knew Sony still made these, I guess for most people the smartphone does it all and they don't need a dedicated mp3 player (even with the apps and other Android bloat it's more than that). Shame it didn't get posted, there's too few reviews on the site as it is. Hopefully that will change shortly.

Tempted to write myself, but not sure I'd have time to dedicate to writing. 4 articles a week as a minimum, guess that isn't too bad, given how many hours I can spend on comments sometimes...
