And a scanner of what? So it's an Anti Virus. :P

An anti virus tries to prevent. A scanner finds and seeks out if you already have a virus for people who dont use an anti virus.

Yes, tried to prevent and remove it.

The first anti virus didn't have real-time protection.

Since this removes the infections found, it's an Anti Virus. :)

P.S.: LOL, they are releasing new versions (with updated definitions ONLY) all the time, why don't they include updater in the program?

I just tried this out. Terrible experience. It's a strange product. There's no logic to the UI. It wants to install on the desktop, without program icons, and no way to run it, except execute "setup". Once open, it wouldn't delete, as there were numerous locked files. I had to go into safe mode to delete this. The uninstall file in the program folder (nothing in Add/Remove) wouldn't work at all.

You've been warned.

It's not meant to be normally installed. It's a tool to remove viruses. It unzips itself to the desktop and runs. To delete it, click 'Complete Virus Protection' in the bottom right corner of the program and it will delete the folder off the desktop.

Nice, but I prefer not getting viruses in the first place.
I do daily backups of my C drive with Acronis True Image so if my OS gets hosed I can restore in 5 minutes.

Thats a dumb statement. its not like a virus says " Here I am Mr Virus. Click on me." You never really know where or if you have a virus. Nothing wrong with scanning for one is there? I think not. I myself have NOD32 installed.

Basically this is the Kaspersky Virus Scan Engine, but without real-time protection, to simplify it's a free Kaspersky that only allow manual scans.

P.S.: The first link to the Download is oudated, use one of the two links (Mirrors), or click here, they are updating the setups to include the latest virus databases, however the app version is the same. :-|

The have it autobuild every 2 hours with updated definitions and sometimes a newer version of the actual program. Last time I checked (a few weeks ago) this tool was still not compatible with Kasperky's retail products. So don't run it on your system if you already have the retail versions of Kaspersky installed.

Cheers

You will be warned by the setup if you already have Kaspersky installed.
