Latest Facebook Windows 8.1 update adds Share charm support and more

The team at Facebook in charge of updates to the recently released Windows 8.1 app has been very busy of late. There's already been a few new versions released since it first went live in mid-October, including one that added a number of notification settings to the app.

This weekend, yet another update to the app was made available via the Windows Store, and while Facebook has not posted up a change log, WPCentral has a list of what's been added in the new version. The changes include support for the Share charm in Windows 8.1 which will allow users to share content from other apps to the Facebook app.

Picture messages can now be used in the app thanks to the new update, as well as the ability to download photos so they can be set as a Facebook profile image. Facebook photos can now be used as a Windows 8.1 lock screen image after they are opened from any post.

The new version lets users share a Facebook post through a message or their timeline too. Finally, the app can show the messenger feature in Snap mode if it positions on screen to be narrower than its previous display limit.

Does anyone else have the bug that the live tile won't refresh? All these old notifications just keep stacking up.. Also, who's online in chat won't update either.

Yup. I get A notification maybe once every 3-4 days.

Getting better, but the web experience on Windows 8 is flawless, making the App only useful for notifications. Windows 8 already had Facebook share features from other Apps via the People App.

Unfortunately, sharing through the People App did have some issues... But assuming they've been ironed out (I haven't tried in a while), there's little need for another way to share to Facebook, I agree...

The app now also lets you snap it narrowly so you have a messenger snapped to the desktop while you do other things. This you cannot do using the browser.

Oh, that's nice...

Your notifications work? It's about as spotty as a Holstein cow for me.
