Latest iPhone firmware unlocked

The latest version of the firmware for Apple's iPhone has fallen to hackers less than a week after its release. Two hackers working separately have both succeeded in jailbreaking version 1.1.3 of the firmware, iPhone Atlas reports. One of the hacks requires hardware modification, so it's not suited for those of a nervous disposition or lacking in electronics expertise.

did anyone think it woudlnt be cracked in a week or 2.... i dont think it's necesarily news worthy.. and technically it has been 'unlocked' to allow you to do what you want...jailbroken is just another term that means the same thing

I thought "jailbroken" was the same as "unbricked" which is very different from "unlocked".... but i could be wrong.

The Jailbreak is NOT Hardware based, that information is FUD.

the exploit involves one of a few attack vectors...

1) Webclips and maliciously forged PNG

2) Overflow / Arbitary Code Execution through a Quicktime flaw still known to be open in 1.1.3 (even though they thought they patched it!)

Other doors potentially exist but that clears up that garbage, again IT IS NOT A HARDWARE MODIFICATION! IT TOOK 7 PEOPLE TO DO IT!

END OF STORY. NEOWIN GET IT RIGHT AND STOP POSTING FUD INFO.

I do believe the article states that one of the methods is hardware based, but the other is not.

i'm curious as to how you know this??? do you have any info to back up your cliams or are you just goign on what you believe?? the 'one of a few' tells me you really have no idea..

Correct, 3G will require new hardware but for the life of me I don't understand why MMS is not included.

also the ability to install games "offline"..on a plane the iphone is useless

other have reported getting pdf files to work but I can't :(

also it would be great to have a new reader that saved content to read later like avantgo

also the ability to add task to the calendar

All these issues are already resolved with 3rd party apps. There's NES, GBA, PSX games aside from ScummVM emulator, Tycoon deluxe, solitaire, etc. etc. There's an MMS app, a PDF reader, a couple of ToDo apps.

iPhone jailbreaked rocks...
