LCD prices continue to soar

LCD panels have been on the rise since January this year.

Asian Wires said that Samsung would hike the price of 15-inch TFT LCD panels again next month. Notebook LCD screens are also set to rise in price again, according to the Taiwan Economic News.

The prices of these screens have been rising steadily since the beginning of the year, fuelled by increased demand for both notebooks and for snazzy monitors based on TFT-LCD technology.

The report said Samsung would raise its price for monitor panels by around $265, while notebook screens would go to as much as $300 per unit.

The last time the major manufacturers raised their prices, it caused Apple and then some PC manufacturers to raise prices on their products.

Prices look like they're set to rise for some months, and it's almost inevitable that smaller manufacturers will lift their prices if Samsung makes the first move.
