LG offers teaser of upcoming five inch smartphone

LG is giving the public a sneak preview of a new smartphone, the Optimus Vu, that looks like it will be a rather large device to carry in your pocket. LG's Korean web blog (translation via Google) has posted up a teaser video that gives an idea about what the phone, titled the Optimus Vu, will look like.

The blog itself is low on details but it did say the LG Optimus Vu will have a big five inch touch screen. In addition, the screen will have an unusual (for a smartphone, anyway) 4:3 aspect ratio. Yet another web site, Datacider.com (again, translation via Google) claims to have some other hardware specs on the phone. The site says the smartphone will have a Qualcomm made 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, one GB of RAM, eight GB of storage, an eight megapixel camera and Android 2.3 out of the box, with a possible update to Android 4.0 later on.

The LG Optimus Vu teaser was clearly made to make people wonder about the smartphone before it's officially announced, which will likely be at the World Mobile Congress trade event in Barcelona, Spain in late February. That's the same event where Microsoft will be making its Windows 8 Consumer Preview launch.

i know my next device is the droid razr maxx.. not only will it get ice cream in a timely fashion but the battery life will be outstanding. it's about the first moto device im interested in.

i'm sure it is fashionable talking to have a piece of 5 inch plus sandal on your face. samsung owners will definitely dig this.

I heard the Optimus Black just received Gingerbread a couple of weeks ago. If they're launching new models with GB now, expect those to receive ICS in 2015.

LG software support is ****. advice : Dont buy from LG !!

No internet sharing here, even though it was made available by Mango. But LG don't want to update their phone's firmware.

5"? i hope this isn't going to be a new standard in smartphones, it's too big. IMO 4"- 4.3" is perfect.

Agreed. These huge phones just look ridiculous. I sure wouldn't want that brick in my pocket.

4-4.3 is perfect? people used to say 3.5-3.8 was perfect before Galaxy SII came out.

if you have used a phone with 4"+ there is no way you could go back to anything smaller. i know as ive tried. 5" is too big and not pocketable.

This grabbed my attention! xD

Mind you, it completely tells you what the phone does with an emotional undertone.
