We would first and foremost like to thank YOU for making us this big!! That said, we wanted to thank a few friends who we feel also had a hand: Billy Wilson and the gang at Voodoo Extreme.com, Blue and Frans at BluesNews.com, Walnut Creek CDROM (provided years of free FTP space) and of course the gang at GameSpot who we will never forget. There are many others, but it would take pages. Please visit our links section to visit some of our other friends. Ben can be visited at 3DCOOL.COM Inc. and I (Tim) have a few other projects in mind and will be heard from again :)
We will update this blurb over the coming days if anything else comes to mind and mainly to leave contact email addresses should anyone like to get ahold of us. Currently we are tim@3dfiles.com & ben@3dfiles.com. We have and are reading EACH and every email your sending but regret we cant respond to them all, so dont be offended by a lack of response. All I can say from what I have read is YOU GUYS ROCK!
We wanted to answer some questions that have been asked more then once in email or clarify where people seem unsure. As with yesterday, we will update this as necessary:
Don't be mad at ZDNet/C|Net. If it wasn't for them, we would have probably closed down 6 months ago -- especially where the ad market is today! :) The two of us could not afford the ftp bandwith. The cost of FTP alone is well over $50,000 per month. C|Net kept us alive this long and were grateful to them.
3DFiles.Com will likely not return. If we find a way to manage a comeback we'll do our hardest. Traffic will be redirected to GameSpot. We truly hope you give them a chance to be in your bookmarks.
We appreciate the server offers, but this isn’t strictly about the servers, its also about cutbacks at C|Net as well as most large internet sites trying to survive. Were not the first and will not be the last.
People have been asking where they can go now. Its dried up out there a lot and we got a lot of our files the hard way, but here are some sites we relied on daily and why:
FTP bandwith is something folks have emailed us about. Our servers currently serve over 3 TERABYTES of downloads per day. That's far more than several dedicated T-3 lines can support. :-)
We're doing what we can do, and we'll keep everyone posted about what we figure out. Thanks for the warm emails -- They haven't gone unread -- It's just hard to respond to over 500 in a matter of hours.... :)
