Pressplay launches it's subscription service

After a series of delays, the long-awaited online music service Pressplay launches today (Wednesday).

Pressplay, which will charge people a monthly subscription fee to download and stream digital music, launched through its Web distribution partnerships with Yahoo, Microsoft's MSN Music and Roxio.

The service kicked off with a two-week free trial for 200 streams and 20 downloads. After that, pricing will be based on the number of song downloads and CD burns available. The service also allows you to save your tracks on 2 computers so you can enjoy Pressplay at home and at work.

Pressplay plans to offer several pricing options:
  • Basic: $9.95 for 300 streams and 30 downloads
  • Silver: $14.95 for 500 streams, 50 downloads and 10 burns
  • Gold: $19.95 for 750 streams, 75 downloads and 15 burns
  • Platinum: $24.95 for 1,000 streams, 100 downloads and 20 burns
Some additional features, you will be able to listen to an unlimited amount of samples (being defined listening to any streaming song for less than 30 second), and each CD compilation will only allow up to 2 tracks from each of your favorite artists.

Pressplay's download option will be accumulative so that unused downloads allotted during a month roll over to the next month. However, the service will not allow songs to be download to portable MP3 devices.
