Digital 5, Inc., the leading supplier of embedded systems and software for digital entertainment devices, today announced the introduction of Netmedia(TM). Netmedia is a complete (server and client) audio/video home networking system for digital entertainment devices. Implemented on TI's TMS320C5000(TM) Digital Signal Processor (DSP) family, the Netmedia solution software includes optimized codec engines running under a networked RTOS environment, with less than 200KB of code, increasing the amount of performance headroom available on the DSP. OEMs of next generation digital entertainment devices, such as intelligent networked speakers, DVD/CD players, digital enabled clock radios/receivers, and other small low cost application-specific entertainment clients, can take advantage of Digital 5's industry leading IP allowing the creation of future synchronized, multiple stream, home digital entertainment network components. Audio Networking options currently include 802.11b as well other LAN standards with several others, including video functionality, to follow in 2002.
Netmedia is a truly innovative, highly integrated and cost effective embedded system for OEMs of entertainment devices needing wireless PC connectivity to stream content in all rooms of a home. PC support is available now with provisions for next generation home entertainment servers to follow. The Netmedia embedded system supports WMA, MP3, WAV and other multimedia formats, as well as, RTP/RTSP and other streaming protocols.
