ahh Part 2 but completely unrelated. This one is to do with the errors we have had in our forums over the past 2 weeks.
Redmak has put his protective helmet on today and is as I type busy fixing the forums. We are upgrading to the latest release of VBulletin which is now at v2.22 (we have 2.21 installed) however, due to the fact that we have installed a huge amount of modifications to the board making it do what we want (hehe) a simple upgrade is out of the question.
Redmak has decided to re-install the board completely at v2.22. One reason being because the polls do not work, selecting avatars does not work and among other things you cannot preview your message before posting. We have never had such errors in the past so fixing it should be no problem. It could be to do with the mySQL and server downtime that something got screwed we don't know.
So for all those that noticed errors in the forums, we hope to have that fixed today, there will be a short downtime in the forums when the installation starts but this should be no longer than a few minutes. No messages and data will be deleted or changed during the re-installation.
"We're not sure what it is that makes some Morpheus members vulnerable to this," said one, who asked to remain anonymous.
"Potentially this could make every user's computer available to anyone who wants to have a look at it.
"All we know is that there's a major gap that's allowing certain users to become vulnerable."
The group contacted BBC News Online out of concern about the privacy implications of the security hole.
"It's definitely an accident from Morpheus' side, probably a worm. This is very dangerous."
Napster was shut down by an American court last July for breaching music copyright.
Morpheus is at present legal because there is no server storing the digital files.
Music fans swapping MP3 files are put in direct contact with each other.
The Recording Industry Association of America, which spearheaded the fight against Napster, is reportedly looking at ways it can tackle these new methods of file-sharing.
