Chip firm Advanced Micro Devices will introduce a set of notebooks from the ultra-small to full size machines using future 130 and 90 nanometer designs, it said today.
But it claims it doesn't need to design a processor "from the ground up" like Intel is doing with its Banias design next year because it is ahead of its much larger competitor in technology.
Martin Booth, product marketing manager of AMD US, also said that his firm will be able to introduce Hammer notebooks which will also cover all the different form factors.
The first products using Hammer notebook chips won't be available until the middle of next year, he said.
He said that notebooks represented something like 30 per cent of sales in retail in the US, and added that AMD has recently made some wins in selling chips into the US enterprise market, although its share here is pretty small, round about two per cent or so.
