Microsoft will display a beta version of Windows XP next week that will run on tablet PCs, a new breed of computers that have touch screens and can read handwriting.
According to sources close to the company, Microsoft will unveil details of the new operating system at next week's TechXNY trade show in New York as it assists manufacturers in having the machines on store shelves by October. The announcement will likely come during a Tuesday morning keynote by Jeff Raikes, group vice president for productivity and business services at Microsoft.

Other new information found in this release included an expanded list of games that will support Matrox's Surround Gaming triple-display technology, one of the product's most interesting features, and those include Flight Simulator 2002, Quake III Arena, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Unreal Tournament 2003, and Imperium Galactica 3: Genesis.
The first version of Parhelia will arrive with a version of the Waytech Coloreal(r) advanced color calibration system, and will be able to understand and leverage Parhelia's dual, high precision 10-bit RAMDACs. Also included is the Matrox GigaColor plug-in for Adobe(r) Photoshop(r), allowing users to view.TIF and .PNG files in 10-bit per color channel. This applet is launched through Adobe's plug-in architecture and allows interactive viewing of images.
And finally, Matrox disclosed that the first Parhelia boards will be available with 128MB of DDR memory in both retail and bulk packaging. According to the company, the retail packaged version of the Matrox Parhelia 128MB board will have an estimated street price of US $399 and both versions are expected to begin shipment by June 30th, 2002. Matrox also announced intent to bring a 64MB and a 256MB version of the Parhelia to market later this summer.
