Thanks Bink of WindowsXP.nu who passed me a copy of this leaked internal document currently doing the rounds at Redmond. It seems either Microsoft is really excited about having MS internals test SP3 at RC level, or their own beta testing team is short coming on the performance gains of this latest Service Pack for Windows 2000. Lets not hint at a guess.. in anycase it looks like RC1 is out judging from the folder location on their network (bolded in "read more") If anything this is a heads up to a possible RC in the very near future. No dates are available -yet

Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) Beta provides the latest updates to the Windows 2000 family of operating systems. These updates are a collection of fixes in the following areas: application compatibility, operating system reliability, security, and setup. Windows 2000 SP3 beta includes the updates contained in Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

High Level Fixes included in SP3 RC
Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) Release Candidate (RC) provides the latest updates to the Windows 2000 family of operating systems. These updates are a collection of fixes in the following areas: application compatibility, operating system reliability, security, and setup. The pre-release version of Windows 2000 SP3 includes the updates contained in Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2). Windows 2000 SP3 RC is not considered a required upgrade for clients.
    Here are some highlights of the SP3 RC fixes:
  • MSI 2.0
  • AutoUpdate (to allow automatic updates of critical fixes to the system similar to XP)
  • Latest IIS Security Roll-up (Released in April 2002)
  • Inclusion of W2K SP2 SRP contents and all of the latest security fixes through the end of March 2002
  • Latest IE security fixes for IE5.01 (released in March 2002)

  • Windows 2000 Customer Support Diagnostics, English
    The following Windows 2000 SP3 RC builds are NOT available:
  • Windows 2000 Professional integrated with SP3 RC, English
  • Windows 2000 Datacenter integrated with SP3 RC, English
  • Windows 2000 with Server Appliance Kit integrated with SP3 RC, English
Physical media will be distributed in the reception area of buildings: 2, 17, 34, 43 and, 50.
