Can the Trident XP4 T2 outperform a Radeon 9000 Pro?

TRIDENT MARKETEERS have told us that its XP4 series will be pretty fast – something which we're sceptical about until we've put the little baby into our test bed and tucked it up.

Here's some figures that sources close to the firm are suggesting. Trident's been unable to keep up with Nvidia and ATI for quite some time. Even with beta drivers it seemed unlikely to us it could match the performance of these two graphics killers.

But the source reckons that the Trident XP4 T2 version, inserted in cards that cost $79 apiece, will "easily outperform" a Radeon 9000 Pro.

And the same lady reckons – again we're sceptical until she's in our test bed – that the card will compete with TI 4200 quite respectably.

Nvidia and ATI are as sceptical about this right now as we are, and it's true to say that pre-launch hype is a truly marvellous thing to behold.
