Is the backdoor still in it that allows the US government to decrypt any PGP encrypted file? I know its a rumour that it was in previous versions ... 6 onwards ... but there is quite substantial evidence if you just search around.

Use GPG and you will not have to worry about this at all.

Use GnuPG 1.2.1 along with WinPT. It's all open source, freeware, and you don't have to worry about whether there are any backdoor deals going on with the US government. Also, with GnuPG, you can easily download plug-ins for Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Miranda ICQ, and a whole range of other communications programs on Linux and Macintosh. Although I personally prefer to use WinPT for interfacing with all of these programs. www.gnupg.org
