According to the "Windows Media Update" e-mail, the final release versions of Windows Media Player 9 Series and Movie Maker 2 will be available January 7, 2003.

Not much else is known about these final builds, but I thought I would inform the public about the official release date. Also available on January 7, 2003 will be Microsoft Plus! Digital Media Edition, which delivers exciting new ways to enjoy your photos, music, and home movies with Windows XP. Stay tuned to see if any of these final builds will make their ways to the 'net earlier than expected.

There is one reminder for http://v4beta.windowsupdate.com site users:

On 12/28/2002, all servers in our lab will go off line due to building power maintenance. We are planning to gracefully shut the servers down at 12:01am on Saturday morning and bring them back online at 12:01am Sunday morning.

Happy New Year!

Thank you!

Oh, yeah, gotta love Trust ripping on Microsoft products when he's using five-year-old versions of them...

I still use 6.4 sometimes, I never use 7 or up because they log whatever you view with it. MS doesn't need to know what I'm watching. Besides, it's only to see video, 6.4 does just fine. For my mp3 lovin', I use Coolplayer.

First of all, it was anonymous usage data, so it's not like they knew what you were watching. Second of all, Windows Media Player 9 prompts you at first run whether or not you want to submit this data. It's off by default.

Its more than about time!!! I've been complaineng for months that the magazines have been bragginf about WMP 9 for months, and they're mostly very , very late and it still hasn' come out ! :disappoin Jan 7th...So that means I can't install it before the end of Christmas break then?

WMP9 is miles ahead of 7.0 (which took the cake as the WORST media player EVAR) It's about bloody time they released the final version! Just in time for second semester!
