Thanks to all those who sent this in.

THe RIAA's website has been of recent times a focus point for "hacker agression", and once again has been hacked. It currently displays the message "No web site is configured at this address.", but Shah Web tells us this was up on the site earlier.

""RIAA - 0wn3d by.... ;p
oooh riaa want's to hack Filesharing Users / Servers ? - better lern to secure your own server...
Sorry Admin - had to deactivate ur accounts - they'll be reactivated after 2 hours."

Well - it just goes to show really. Once or twice is bad luck - more than that is in-competance :D

View: 3 Guesses as to what webserver their running :)

Update: Thanks to the member whom has put up this mirror - wired57.

The text on their front page reads:

C'mon, if RIAA can't get their heads out of their asses and fix music prices to prevent piracy, you think they can lock down a webserver correctly?

Whichever webserver they use, they are gonna get hacked again, and again, and again...

[neoquote=#3.0 by Kombatant]Whichever webserver they use, they are gonna get hacked again, and again, and again... [/neoquote] yeah, they are. if they knew how to better secure it and were smart enough they could restore it easily, but no they don't do any of that.

surprise, surprise! I already knew that they ran IIS because all you need to do is go to http://www.riaa.org/admin, click cancel and then it says "Internet Information Services" above the line

What kills me is, if you follow this link: http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph/?host=riaa.org ...you get banner ads for Netcraft Security Testing... Is this not the very definition of irony? Doctor, heal thyself...

Okay, so is this: http://www.riaa.org/PR_Story.cfm?id=599 real or not?
Quote this comment #6.1 Posted by Fotix on 12 Jan 2003 - 03:38
Don't think so, it's like a dream come true Plus it's riddled with spelling errors and terse language a PR lackey would never use.

This has nothing to do with them using IIS, the point is they don't know dick about Internet Security, and no matter what they do they'll be taken down.

Congrats. But I think this popularity is going to be short lived. But never fear, RIAA will get hacked again and your mirror will be popular yet again.

Too bad they restored the site so quickly. Still was amusing to see it hacked, the bastards.

Ok, so we all know RIAA aren't exactly good guys. And it's good that people dare to stand up against them. But it's also sad that people will stoop to cracking their (admittedly non-existant) security and change their website. But let's keep track of what's what here. Hackers aren't the people who break into systems and change/steal information. Hackers are like most of Neowins readers, enthusiasts who enjoy learning about computers and programming neat gadgets. A hack, on the other hand, has many different meanings, some of which include "elaborate practical joke", "a quickly written program", "a carefully crafted program", "ingenious solution to a problem" and so on. The people who will do Bad Things to companies aren't hackers. They're crackers. Even though some of these crackers pull pranks (hacks) on the websites they've "owned", they aren't hackers.
